I have a TD-20 with Hart Dynamics e-kit that Triggers Superior drummer running on a Mac book Air that I actually use as a live rig. I don't use this rig for recording but adapting it to your case of recording audio I would simply record the midi and trigger samples during mixing but as...
The Ghost has mute automation built in (pretty crude given today's DAW control) and I do use it to control Alesis HD24. I'm old school and really like pushing faders and turning real pots. I will say it is surprisingly quiet and I have no issue interfacing samplitude and pro tools DAWs via...
You're welcome. Once your get the energy level where you want it in the lead vocals, then you can riff of on the baking vocals. I would recommend having a lot of layered vocals (double track) throughout the song and through in vocal hits/accents that ultimately billed up as the song...
Let me start off by saying this genre is not my strongest suit but it seems to me that the vocals are not emotional i.e., very monotone - meaning they lack energy. Additionally, there are pitch issues with the backing vocals and some of the timing seems off. These are all performance issues...
Saying you're not happy narrows the possibilities down to say....... Infinity ;) so...what exactly are you not happy with? What do you want it to sound like - reference commercial released song or 2.
Can you post your mix?
Could you please define "doesn't sound right" ? Depending on the age of the older 57 it would be no surprise that it produces a different "sound" mainly because the output x formers in the newer models are not as good. There is actually a mod for a new version of the 57 that actually removes the...
The are many plug-ins that attempt to emulate tube warmth. How effective are they when compared to actual analog gear (and I'm not starting another analog v digital war) - well that's a matter of much debate.
I'd recommend the following :
Drums 4 tracks - 2 OH (recorderman setup) 1 snare & 1 kick. Small room so that is probably more than enough. You might even be able to give up snare mic since OHs will capture that as well.
1 track bass
1 track acoustic guitar
1 track scratch vox
Not...
Another approach for sure.
Here's what my first approach would be.
2 - 57's as overheads - recorderman setup
1- 57 in kick
MXL 990 on snare
Depending on the song style you may or may not need the extra bite on the snare the condenser will provide. Recorderman usually gets a pretty good...
Buy a MXL V67G and send it to Michael Jolly @ oktavamod to have it modified....I had one laying around and set it to him for modification and WoW. I have no affiliation with the company, other than being a customer, but they have modified a couple of mics for me.
Midi is not audio, it is a protocol (ie data). Therefore it doesn't produce any sound in and of itself. You need a midi instrument to interpret the data which in turn will output audio - that audio is what gets mixed with the other tracks not midi. Not trying to be db but the term "mixing...
Dave, I was actually editeding my response to clarify my statement about the figure 8 as an oversimplification of the point I was trying to make albeit a failed attempt :-)
Peace
Bill
I didn't intend my comment as a general rule although my statement about the brightness being a function of the figure 8 might be an oversimplification.
However, your assumption - "assumes" all things are equal which is not always the case. For example, Royer R series mic (by patented...
No issue at all with using all ribbons. One added bonus of a ribbon mic is you can record into each side of the mic to produce a different tonality since the back side of the mic will be a bit brighter than the front.
