I love micing bass cabs, I also DI at the same time. The amp I usually mic for myself is a 25 watt 1 x 10" crate amp, sounds great and I am running it quite soft in volume. Would not even need isolation.
However due to the nature of the recording the last album I played on was tracked through...
It should not matter, but try holding record then press the play button.
Have you got MX View on a computer connected to the Machine? I am thinking that the rewind is for some reason going past the recorded part. If you had MX view you can see it on the screen.
Another thing is that the...
I must admit that I don't watch the what makes a song great as much as I watch the music theory lessons. I did enjoy the what makes a song great "Roundabout" by Yes.

I always use the method of dragging the route icon onto an empty track. You then click on the route icon on the track you want to go to the bus and de-select the tick that send that track to the master stereo bus, the track then will only go to the master bus via the bus (track) you created. Its...
He has some ramble on videos, these are more casual and he does them now and then, I just thought that the comments about good gear over buying more expensive recording gear was interesting for beginners here.

I should have said that the title drew me in, I don't have it as bad as Rick, but it's only funds that keep it that way LOL.
I do agree with him on the fact that the instrument first then the amp is the source of the sound and the mics and recording gear come next. I read here all the time...
Have a look at this, talks guitars, amps, Drums etc, but makes a great point about the quality and sound of instruments being the main thing about getting a good sound. Talks about amps also and about getting good amps sounds at lower volumes. I think you will find this interesting. Rick's...
That I do understand. We sold the house 12 years ago and now live in a small apartment. When the house was sold I used the left over money after buying the apartment to put a deposit on a small factory unit and convert to a studio and warehouse for the live gear / band gear. Oh and my Man...
The last album I recorded with drum samples I played and recorded real cymbal parts. That made a huge difference.
I think the absence of real drums is that everyone wants perfect drum sounds and are too lazy to learn how to record real drums. I think that the great thing about recording real...
I bought 2 off these new (we my parents did) back in 1972 Ish, I had a recording setup of a TEAC A360 cassette and the 2 mics. I recorded a lot of direct to stereo recordings of bands and the recording quality was brilliant for the time. Still own them but a little beaten up now because of...
Seeing we are talking mics and favourites, the reason I have so many mics and favourites is that I love recording bands live, all playing together in the studio. When this happens you need MICS! And they all have to be good.
For example, my own bands last album was recorded live, except...
Just came across this on another forum Welcome To X32ReaperAutoMate! – Professional Mixing Automation System For The X/M32 with Reaper™ Funny I was thinking of selling my X32 because I bought it for live mixing but I nearly always use my QSC Touchmix16 as its easier to carry. I may keep the X32...
It depends what day it is LOL. I am always changing my favourite mic. It also depends what you are going to record, vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, banjo (oh, no mic required :) )
My favourite vocal mic at the moment is a CAD Tron 8000 valve mic, picked it up for AU$200 on ebay, not...
I've used a shield when recording a double bass to stop the sound of the rest of the band being picked up by the double bass mic. So yes the shield should reduce the sound of the room being picked up. You could put the amp and mic behind a soft chair to reduce the room sound also?
Alan.
Funny, I have the midi expander on my old Atari 1040 (yes it still works, with parts form my Atari 1040 junk yard, and I still use it). The expander gave the 1040 4 x 16 channels of outs, plus I have the Unitor attached with gives 2 x 16 outs and 2 x 16 ins. LOL. Massive for the time.
