    Again, what,why is/to Dithering?

Here's what I do: I record the tracks in 24 bit in Cubase and perform the mix.I export that as a stereo file from Cubase to a file labeled "Mixdown," in 24 bit and not dithered. I open the mixdown file in Wavelab. I apply compression, eq, reverb, etc until I like it. I render this file, still...

    Exactly.

    Again, what,why is/to Dithering?

When to dither? When you go from 24 to 16 bits, as stated above. Keep your project in 24 bit until you're ready to burn to CD. Then convert to 16 bits. That is when you dither. Set your dither to 16 bits. Only dither once per project or additional noise will cumulate. If you start out in 16...

    how are these mics?

The AT pro 4L is a fine mic for live performance. I picked up a used one on ebay for $15. It is a rugged professional quality microphone and you can steal them on ebay routinely. The Radio Shack mic you should avoid IMHO.

    recording bass direct

You need to run the D.I. from your amp into a preamp to make the signal hotter before going into the Aardvark. The preamp on your mixer will do. The ART Tube MP acts as the D.I. and preamp and would give you plenty of gain to go direct in. But if you already have a mixer or preamp, try going...

    How do you handle backups?

2 hard drives best for audo recording?

Yes to all of the above. If you have one drive, you should partition it and keep your audio tracks there. A second drive should make your system more efficient and allow more tracks with fewer glitches, but if you are not having a problem and don't need the space it may not be worth the money...

    Mic Overload! Help!

Mackie vs RNP Hey, tmix. I've been wondering about the RNP compared to my Mackie VLZ pro preamps, especially for female vocalist and stereo solo acoustic guitar. Any insight into this? Thanx.

    Cubase VST 5

In Options\Audio\System look at the monitoring options. Try Direct ASIO or Global Disable. Worth a try.

2 hard drives best for audo recording?

Just added an 2nd drive. Left cubase on C:, just use the new drive for new audio files. Left my old audio files where they were, until I'm done with them. The second drive may help if you have a problem running multiple tracks, but otherwise will not improve sound quality.

    Amplitude Problem

PIII 866 512 RAM Win XP Pro -- Aardvark Aark 24 --Cubase VST 5.1 I usually monitor direct through the Aark 24 , with Cubase set to Global disable, so you can't hear the effects in Cubase. When I try the tape type monitor, I hear Amplitube but with the slight delay, even with latency down to 8...

    Amplitude Problem

ALBERTPIKE When using Amplitude and monitoring real time through Cubase, there is a slight delay no matter how low I set the latency. I don't think it's possible to completely eliminate it. Sounds like a slapback delay.

    Recording Roland electronic drums

Okay, Skippy, I was able to do this with the drum kits on my Yamaha keyboard, but when I tried it with the Roland TD-8 I got car honks, whistles, and shrieks. I couldn't find the DrumMaps or patches for the Roland drums on the Steinberg web site. Found patches for lots of other things, but not...

    Recording Roland electronic drums

Can I record Roland TD-8 through the MIDI into Cubase VST 5.1? When I playback, can I keep the Roland drums sounds or will I go to GM kits? Anyone know how to do this? I can't find specific patches in Cubase. Can I find them somewhere?

    Delay problems Pleeeze help!!!!!!!

Set monitoring to Global disable, if your card supports direct no latency monitoring. If not, try Direct ASIO monitoring. The others will produce a slight delay.

    Questions about electronic drum sets

Recording MIDI ouput Can I record my drummer's Roland TD-8 from the MIDI output into Cubase, then play back through the TD-8 onto an audio track? Do I need a patch for Cubase to get the Roland drum sounds? Can't find one that looks right.

    Aardvark VS. Delta 1010

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the LX6, base on my experience with it. Remember, you need external preamps or a mixer with preamp sends, since the LX6 has no built-in preamps.
