The audiopile cables are great and cheap.
Redco will custom build them for you with the cables and connectors of your choice, but they're generally more expensive.
I think it's a good idea to take a DI signal without distortion in addition to the distorted track. Most fuzz boxes suck out the low frequencies. You can blend back in some of the DI track if you want them back.
If they harmonize well together and you want to capture that, there's nothing wrong with throwing up a mic (or two, or three) and just going with it. Consider a figure-8 (or a pair of figure-8's in Blumlein for stereo) to get more bodies around one mic. Also, consider placing some mics further...
Thanks. Anybody know anything about Beyond Eleven as a dealer? They claim to have them, and are a little cheaper. Just not familiar with that store.

I was looking for a Cannabis Rex speaker for my 1x12, but most places seem to be out of stock. I e-mailed Eminence to see if they know when they'll be available again, and get some "out of office" reply. Are they really still around? Anyone know the scoop?
To answer your question directly: No, you do not need a new/better preamp...at least, it won't make nearly as much difference as getting the sound right at the source (guitar, amp, & mic are more important, imo).
It's a pretty darn good mic for a lot of things (vocals, guitar amps, floor tom, etc.), although I can't specifically comment on the handling noise, as I've never tried to hold it while singing.
The 81 gave it a midrange/nasally quality. Might be useful for garage rock. It trashed up the cymbals and narrowed the stereo field a little to my ears.
Not my favorite vocal condenser, but the CAD M179 is a great workhorse LDC with multi-patterns, pad, and roll-off and could handle just about any task you throw at it. There may still be some places selling them for $129 if you look around (normally $199).
IMO, a pickup or internally mounted mic is far less than ideal for recording guitar. If you think about it, you don't listen to these instruments with your head crammed inside the soundhole. You listen to them in a room, where you are getting the sound reverberating from the strings/soundboard...
I have a couple of padded tool cases. You can get them at Lowe's/Home Depot/Harbor Freight.
Something like this:

Sorry to clutter your thread WhiteStrat, but I actually have the same question. I've been using some crappy Crate speaker, but I'm considering getting the Eminence Cannabis Rex. Anybody used that with the VJ head?
Thanks for the help, guys. Any thoughts on the Lanikai brand?

Thanks!
Why a tenor? I want it to sound like a ukulele and not a guitar, and I'd prefer to be able to tune it high: GCEA. Is that possible with the tenor?
The Concert Sized Fluke says you can tune it either way: GCEA or DGBE. Same for the tenor?
