    I Need Strings!

I'm driving around last night listening to a song I've been working on, when it all of a sudden hit me. This song would be complete with a nice string ensemble underneath the guitars! Unfortunately, I haven't messed with midi/soundfonts/synths/etc. enough to know where the hell to start looking...

Check out this new board/controller from TASCAM

Check out this new board/controller from TASCAM

:D Awesome, just the thread I was hoping to read. Thanks!

    Which one's the best??

I totally agree...HS2004 would be plenty and it wouldn't brake the bank. Get yourself a good mic, mic pre, and a new audio interface and you'll be set for a while. Also, read read read all postings in this bbs. It will help and it's worth the time and effort. Good luck! :D

    Which one's the best??

You'll find a lot of people in this bbs use different versions of Sonar. Sonar 3 was just released and is the latest and greatest by Cakewalk. What are you trying to achieve? How much money you want to spend (it's always about the money isn't it :D)? What setup/gear are you using.

Whats The Point Of Mixing Anyway!!

    Vocal treatment

You should post an example up in the MP3 clinic. You'll get some good advice there :D

How many audio tracks can you play?

The dropouts probably aren't a Sonar thing, it's a system thing. Seems like maybe your processor can't handle the load. What are your specs??

    Mackie Control

Good Point, I never thought of that. :D Any other recommendations on good stand alone controllers that are out there now other than the Mackie?

    Mackie Control

Got a little confused, do you consider the Mackie to be high end, or the Tascam to be high end?? I ask because I don't have a controller and am really leaning towards getting one. But I'd also like to upgrade my audio interfaces also, so I thought Tascam would be a nice integration of all of...

    Mackie Control

What do you all think are the good/bad differences between the Mackie Control Universal and the new Tascam FW1884 other than one is midi, the other is firewire? Are there any differences on how they handle Sonar? I was looking at them both and can't really find a reason to justify why the Tascam...

    Sonar with soundcard???????

Also you may want to ask yourself how portable you need it. I use an external USB card (Duo) that works perfect because we do most of our tracking in a different place than I do the mixing. I'm too cheap to buy 2 cards :D so I opted for the USB one that I can take back and forth with me without...

My mix sounds better from two rooms away, and I don't understand why.

Than again....it could just be the monitoring system you're hearing your song on :D There always somthing isn't there!!

My mix sounds better from two rooms away, and I don't understand why.

Without knowing anything else, I'd guess that your kick drum is EQ'd way to loooowww. :D This is why you aren't actually hearing the 'whack' of the kick drum pedal that I think you're wanting to hear. Try to roll off < 50 hz and maybe boost a bit in the 250-500hz range. Also, check to see where...

    Best way to handle it

Me Too! :D Tama, if you bump your processor up to any P4, beef up your RAM to at least 512mb or greater, and get a new hard drive, you'd be in heaven! You can easily do that for under $500 too :)

    Best way to handle it

Work's kinda slow today so I've had some extra time :) I'm sure others will have much more to suggest, but believe me, it'll be easier drop some money into it than pulling your hair out trying to figure out ways to cut corners to save on cpu usage.

    Best way to handle it

Unfortunately, the easiest way is to upgrade your system so that it doesn't matter how man effect/plugings you want to run :D Off the top of my head, I'd suggest checking to see if you may be running the exact same track effect in more than one track, ie like compressing the bass and kick drum...

Main Vocals in the Center, Sounds Thin

It could be, but it sounds pretty sweet when it's sitting just with the drums, bass, and acoustic. I really just think I'm getting some contention with clean electric track. I'm gonna keep working on it and post it up in the Clinic shortly.

Main Vocals in the Center, Sounds Thin

??? Never heard of, at least in a Sonar sense. Is it possible in Sonar to do that? and if so could you give me a short rundown of how? I've only used the volume and pan envelopes.
