Equipment Upgrade Advice, Using a DAW

Hey all, Currently I do all of our tracking with an M-Audio Duo (2 in, 2 out) straight into Sonar running on a 3.2 P4, 2 gigs SDRAM, and dual 7200rpm 80 gig hard drives. Usually track drums and bass simultaneously, track all other parts individually, and then mix in the box, mainly because in...

why can't I master my own stuff?

This thread started with someone asking for some advice. Unfortunately it boiled down to multiple people ripping that advice to shreds, and disregarding some great advice because they knew (thought) what the answer was. I still suggest that whomever is looking for help, you'll get tons of...

why can't I master my own stuff?

One more ignorant point for you. You're not dealing with MOST listeners out here on this board. That's why I live out here, because these people on this bbs know more than average listener. If I wanted to know what the average listener thought, I would ask my mom, or maybe your mom because she...

why can't I master my own stuff?

You really need to learn to take constructive criticism. If you don't want to hear what people think, don't post it.

Sounds Good on Headphones, Crappy on Speakers...

Before my monitor purchase: - computer speakers - sounded like a rock star - car stereo - realized the bass is about 10db too damn loud!! - home stereo - sounded like Led Zeplin if you could get the whole band inside a metal bucket with the drummer beating the top After remixing with decent...

MP3 examples of songs before and after MASTERING?

Just wanted to throw out there that I've heard a couple examples of this where there was only a slight audible difference between the original and the mastered version. But most of the time it seems that it's the slight differences that are cleaned up by the ME. I actually just got back from...

Monitors and headphones and speakers oh my

Yes...But...if you spend $3000 on a set of monitors that all of the gurus suggest you get, and you're new to all of this, you'll be pissed because you won't be able to tell the difference (sound wise) between the $3000 pair and the $500 pair. To start off (unless you're rolling in dough and you...

    quick studiophile bx5 review

I've got a pair of BX5's in my home studio. Love them for their upper end, but I did have to do a lot of positioning adjustments to get the bass to come out in the room that I have them. But the only way you'll get any kind of heart felt thump from a 5" sub would be to find one that's ported...

    Newbie Mixing Queation (Dual Guitars)

I usually recommend Bobby Owsinski's "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook". It'll keep you busy for a while! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0872887235/qid=1065541721/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-7620023-0529563?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

    Newbie Mixing Queation (Dual Guitars)

:D It just really depends on the sound you are looking for and what style of music you're mixing also. I do a lot of southern rock that is acoustic guitar driven and there are usually 3 - 5 different guitar parts, and if everything were down the center, it would sound like there were 6 guys...

    Newbie Mixing Queation (Dual Guitars)

I think the best answer that anyone can give is do whatever you think sounds the best. Pan one hard left and one hard right, put'em both up the center, pan one hard left and hard right and the other about 2, etc., etc.. Play around and use your ears to hear where they fit the best.

    I Need Strings!

:D Do I smell a challenge?? James vs David, Synthesized vs Actual?? Could be interesting. :D

    I Need Strings!

Understandable...I'll keep messing with it. I've found so many different DXi's and sound fonts that I could probably spend the rest of this year going through them. By quartet, I really meant that intimate sound that's not spread across the entire sound stage like recorded orchestral samples...

    I Need Strings!

Edirol VSC from Insert --> DXi menu (at least I think that's where it is, not at my studio). Is that what you're talking about??

    I Need Strings!

I've played with the drum map in the Edirol DXi, but didn't realize you could do other instruments. Guess I'll have to play with it when I get home. Thanks.
