Sonar 2.2 Shutting Down on Project Open

Hey all...thanks for the suggestions. I've found a little different workaround than actually mixing down the orchestra track prior to shutting down. I've got it to work now as long as I open the HALion plug and empty all of the loaded samples before I close the project. Then when I re-open the...

Sonar 2.2 Shutting Down on Project Open

Well...Steinberg tech support replied to my email and said "Make sure you a not running any other programs when you try to open your project. That should free up enough memory to fix it." Wonderful...just wonderful. Very helpful. So...I went ahead and uninstalled/reinstalled...and still get...

Sonar 2.2 Shutting Down on Project Open

Man this is driving me nuts. I bumped up the number of midi buffers Dachay but I'm still getting nothing. I then thought it could be that new DEP (Data Execution Prevention) Windows released with service pack 2 (basically monitors software and if an app uses excessive amounts of memory, Windows...

Sonar 2.2 Shutting Down on Project Open

Thanks...at least now I can get in there and back it up. I tried it in safe mode and it's definitely the HALion plug causing issues. I started all plugs but that one and it worked fine. Any ideas of what might cause this? I'm still stumped why I was able to use it and save the project last...

Sonar 2.2 Shutting Down on Project Open

I installed HALion String Edition (yeah, all 5 gigs worth) on my system yesterday to add an orchestra backing for a project I'm working on in Sonar 2.2 XL. I played with it for about 3 hours and was able to build a decent sounding orchestra track using the DXi. Up to that point everything worked...

    Pitch Shift Plug Suggestion?

Can anyone recommend a decent pitch shift plug? I'm running Sonar 2.2 xl. I've played around with the Time/Pitch stretch that it comes with, but I was hoping there was a free or fairly cheap $$ plug that can be used as a track insert. -Thanks

Presonus Pre & Comp-->Any Good or Not?

Really depends on what you're planning on using it for. If you're just starting out, and all you have is a couple hundred dollars to spend, and you're not familiar with using mic pre's/compressors and such...I think it would be a decent deal. A few months down the road, once you've had a chance...

    LCD Noise Tips and Tricks

Sucks about your DUO. I've actually had pretty decent luck and results with mine over the past year and a half or so. But like with you...I'll hang on to it until it craps out and then spend some money on a decent firewire card.

    LCD Noise Tips and Tricks

Yeah...I just hooked up a DI to the input line between my gate/compressor and mixer. Flipped on the ground lift and now the output to my card is fine. Looks like the LCD is interfering with both my mic pre and gate/compressor and not the mixer or sound card.

    LCD Noise Tips and Tricks

M-Audio Duo. It's definitely picking up interference on the line into the mixer and not at the card itself. If unhook that line, my outputs to the sound card are crystal clear.

    LCD Noise Tips and Tricks

I'm getting a very low level hum/buzz (< 60hz) from my Sony 19" LCD monitor through the line input on my mixer and into my sound card. I thought maybe something in my rack chain was causing it, but I disconnected everything one by one until I accidentally turned off the monitor. The buzz...

Whats the best sound card for pc?

I wouldn't discredit your sound card just yet. That's actually a decent card for homerecording purposes. There are ways around the monitoring situation, may want to invest in a mixer that has a few busses, that way you can record, playback, record while playback, etc. without buying a new sound...

Can anyone recommend a mastering studio and cd replication service?

Rodney Mills is here in ATL. He's mastered a couple of records from some friends of mine and artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pearl Jam, etc.. but works with the locals at a great rate. No idea if he does mass duplication: http://www.rodneymills.com/openingTwo.html

Have you ever made a mix in Sonar that you were TRULY happy with?

I'm kicking myself in the ass for over-correcting/re-doing things that sounded great the first time they were laid down now. After listening to this mix for a couple of weeks, it started to sound crappy, the guitars got kind of dull, song got kind of boring, so I started re-doing it. Once I was...

Equipment Upgrade Advice, Using a DAW

:D HAHA, saving money. It's a great concept, unfortunately rarely followed by myself. Usually I'm saving money to pay off the things that I never saved money to buy in the first place! And to top it off, GC just bumbed up my limit, not good!

Equipment Upgrade Advice, Using a DAW

TJ, Thanks for the advice...definitely want to stay away from Behringer. I've got a couple of their 16 channel mixers now out in our garage that keep crapping out. Also their built in mic pres tend too introduce a bunch of noise. I'm seriously considering getting the Mackie 24 8 buss because...

Equipment Upgrade Advice, Using a DAW

well, the more researching I do, the more I'm leaning towards just picking up an HD24 for tracking, transferring the waves to the pc for editing and back to the HD24 for final mixdown. But I'm still looking a mixer if anyone's got any ideas.

Sounds Good on Headphones, Crappy on Speakers...

It's not really about whether they're crap or not, it's really how flat they are. But I've read about a lot of people getting decent flat response from home stereo speakers. I'd say if you've got the money for good home stereo speakers, it may be better spent on monitors, IMHO :).
