I have 10 children 5 boys and 5 girls and for some reason I mix between 72 and 78 db 80% of the time.
And they are WELL TRAINED to not make noise in the studio and to KEEP THE VOLUME DOWN in the house. That, my friend is rasing children.
about 80-85db normal house volume is acceptable they...

Simple rule of thumb.. With a vocal track mix with the vocal up or at least heard so you can hear the relationship between the instrumentation and the vocals. I tend to mix with most things on. If I am focused on drums I'll have bass, keys and vocals bumping while I tweak the drums...

HEY!! HEY!!! HEY!!!
Who cares cut the cat fight out.
85db is considered by the MAJORITY of pro Mixers and Scientists as the max level for extended term mixing. Heck I mix at an average of 74-78db 90% of the time.
I must add In the studio as I am also a live engineer who tends to mix live at...
Now that is another one. LOL I was in session recently, and why Did I Just the lowly engineer have to keep telling the gtr player EVERYTIME his gtr went out of tune.. Hey buddy check that 3rd string... I thin it just went flat again. LOL
It tickles me to find gtr and bass players who come to...
Sjoko, I gotta agree with Hans, tuning a Piano is an Art form. I have been tuning Pianos since I was 12. It was no joke to learn the technique, after that it was learning to make it sing and not just be accurate.

Interesting Hans and Sjoko. As an Engineer (stuck here in Detroit. BTW LOL ) I had a drummer teach me to tune drums back in 1996. Of course I dont hang out with drummers, but it is good to hear someone support what he taught me. Tuning the drums to the various notes and even to the key of the...

Luckily My Mother had me in front of a piano growing up so once I figured out what Middle C was, I survived. LOL. Just barely. never will forget that little red booklet. Easter Sunday.
Bryan Giles
You sang in the choir too huh> The choirs I sang in you showed up and they gave you a book. that is how I 1st learned to read music. You had to sing what you saw. LOL
Bryan Giles
Well I did the wall between the control room and live room with triple layers of Wallboard. What I can say is what little Low end was creeping through room from the CR side was eliminated. PERIOD!!!
It was amazing to see how much low end was being trapped between walls, especially when I cut my...
Love that Idea Lap. My Business model was to build a mix spot for all the Gospel/CCM records I have been mixing over the past 5 years. And i wound up building a Studio and just finished the 1st project out of that Studio. (Local Church)
I just wanted my own personal mix spot (so I could keep a...

As for me and my floor tom, I use a Beta 98
Gives me plenty of attack and that nice floor tom throaty sound I like.
I have also done the old mic off the side of the rim for more attack pick-up and anothe rmic on the head for more of the tone and blend the 2 as needed and compensating for phase...
