How To Find Electrician in My Area That Is Qualified / Experienced With Studio's?

How do you know it's EMI and not RFI, a ground loop, or another cause?

    What Microphone should I buy?

Measuring with a short circuit at the input isn't all that uncommon. And, frankly I don't care a whole lot about specs. I am allergic to noise, hiss more especially. And this preamp doesn't annoy me. That's possible, Dave. But does it matter? A lot of specs are "embellished". Some are outright...

    Time for a new mic?

The opinions here are hard on the Focusrite. It doesn't have enough gain for an obsolete mic. It's only an entry level professional audio interface, when you look at the price. The SM7b, otoh, is fantastic. If you don't look at the price, that is. It's only a simple dynamic cardio in the...

    What Microphone should I buy?

There's also an alternative for field recording: The Aerco MP2: http://www.aerco.net/html/mp2.html I've never used it myself, but a colleague is raving about it. It's a bit more expensive (750$, IIRC), but that includes the rechargeable battery. And it has Cinemag trannies :D

    What Microphone should I buy?

I don't know about the -140 dB spec. It could be true, depending on the measurement method. A zero Ohm resistor doesn't have noise, fi. It could be calculated, not measured. Who knows? But it is an awfully quiet preamp. It's near my FF400's noise floor. The only other ones I know that are...

    What Microphone should I buy?

Why? Get a pair of Behringer B5's and you'll have all you need. An omni and a cardio and a spare mic. If you're out in the bush, you need a spare. If you're recording in a quit environment, use the omni. If not, cardio. See if you can find a 2nd hand Core Sound 2496. Core Sound ? Mic2496 V2...

    Late arriving Musicians

It's not only musicians... I've had a dance producer pull down the master fader on my desk whispering "wrong song"... Then continuing in a loud voice "Oh, no! It's not". She was on time, but meddling with everything. And she hadn't a clue about the technical side of things. She had arranged...

    Solved Tascam DX4 D & Tascam 22-4 compadibility

I seem to remember you need a jumper somewhere, as the recorder doesn't know how to tell the DBX unit to engage... I'll see if I can find the details. That is, if our resident Tascam guru doesn't beat me to it :D EDIT: The jumper mod is explained here: Question about dx4d I'd read the...

Do I really need to learn mixing and/or equalization?

I measured a Kaotix Eyeball a few years ago. I wouldn't use it. It's resonant, which amazed me, as it is basically just foam. But it seems the density is high enough to cause internal reflections. These aren't always in the way, but they'll slow down your learning process.

Is it safe to use powered monitors with the DP008EX?

I don't see why there would be any issues with that. At worse, you might get some hum going from the unbalanced outputs on the DP008EX to balanced inputs. But I think the JBL's have an unbalanced input too. Don't worry, be happy. These are fine speakers.

    very noob question about echo

The cause is the large, empty room. You could try another mic to see if it picks up less reflections. But it will still pick up some reflections. What mic are you using now?

    very noob question about echo

What you need is a smaller room. Wel stuffed with book cases, a couch... If you can't do that, you could look into room treatment. Just search the forum and you'll find lots of info. You could also build a vocal booth. But that's even more work.

    HD Vinyl

That's either FM or digital (ADAT, DAT)... FM is analog, but it's not better than your well adjusted Revox. Besides, there isn't anything wrong with digital an sich. It's just the way it is used. Over compressed, very loud and even just brutally clipping. I agree it would sound better on...

    Adapter for Microphone to iPhone

The Apple 30 pin connector of previous iphones has an analog in and requires only an appropriate adapter to 3,5 mm jack. The newer Lightning connector isn't as simple and requires some hardware to attach a mic, even if it offers digital and analog inputs. The reason is, the iphone needs to...

    stereo/mono

Sorry for getting confused. I just reread the entire thread. It's not a REAPER problem, since Audacity behaves the same. That leaves Windows settings, or a defective UCA 202. Could Windows be supposing this is a mono source?

    stereo/mono

The UCA 202 USB sound interface doesn't have mic inputs... You wouldn't be trying to use it with a USB mic, would you? In that case, your question is confusing everyone. If not, how are you connecting the mic? Through a preamp?

Do I really need to learn mixing and/or equalization?

That depends. How are you recording the covers? - A stereo backing track to which you add vocals? - Instruments recorded on separate tracks?

    Most natural sounding mic?

If you want natural, you're definitely better off with an SDC pencil mic. And if your room allows it, an omni...

pro tools, import mp3, quick time

The only reason to have QuickTime on a Windows machine, is if you edit video. You'll need the ProRes codec and MS doesn't do that one. Or, of course, if you use iTunes or Safari. QT comes with a different MP3 codec and iTunes needs that. It won't work with the mp3 codec from ffmpeg, lame, or...
