    External Hard Drive Purchase Help

I'm still saying that... Some models are not wanted in the enterprise market. That's why they're not sold under that label.

    External Hard Drive Purchase Help

Not across all models. Most models aren't available as enterprise drives. And enterprise drives usually are the better ones, as in "less likely to fail" in the warranty period. They usually get replaced (by bigger/faster drives) when the warranty runs out anyway. Otherwise, there's no sense in...

    External Hard Drive Purchase Help

It will surprise you, but "enterprise level" harddisks are mostly the same as consumer drives. Except for SAS or SCSI drives. It's the warranty that's different. Not a longer warranty, but replacement drives are shipped immediately, without discussion. Sometimes the firmware is slightly...

    External Hard Drive Purchase Help

Look at backblaze's stats. If there's one brand that has the occasional monday morning model, it's Seagate. Besides, Seagate and WD merged in 2017. Toshiba might be the only exception. But all the other external harddisk box makers put in whatever's the cheapest atm. The worst I have seen in...

    External Hard Drive Purchase Help

I don't think there's any use in comparing brands when talking about external drives. You don't know what's inside. There might be another brand of disk, or even another brand of USB controller some day. When you want to know about failure rates of naked drives, have a look here: 2017 Hard...

AW1600 TOOLS CD or download available...?

Sorry, can't help you with compiling a boot disk. I have no idea how the AW1600 boots. I've had a look and didn't find any other location to download from. Did find some dodgy sites in the .ga TLD that offer interesting malware, tho... :D

How do you all store your microphones?

Foam isn't really suited. It will disintegrate some day... I've cleaned too many membranes with foam dirt.

    microphone "open" basket design

The only logical shape for most mics, is the LDC pencil. Baskets all add some form of weirdness. Not for figure of eight, of course.

Room EQ Wizard measurement interpretation HELP!?

Could you give us a floorplan? Note position of the speakers, if you've already decided that. And position of the measurement mic, if you recall. Doesn't have to be cm precise, i's more to get a perspective. And what materials are floor, walls, ceiling... made of? Ir doesn't look too bad...

Which Linux-based software should I try?

Most of the PCI interfaces are compatible. Some Firewire interfaces are compatible too. For FW you need ffado. But don't shoot me if Linus and his kernel hackers decide to drop it from the kernel in the next release. That happened with the Emagic A26 and A62 fi. The decided it was too old...

    Speaker positioning

I know what it sounds like. I do take pictures sometimes. Of printed circuit boards, mainly. But I even forget those. Usually, the device is already repaired and the case is closed before I think of making pics. Now that I think of it, I should take some pics from the SX1 that's on my desk...

    Speaker positioning

Sorry, I listen. Never take pics of the finished studio. And the final placement of the monitors is done by the studio owner. Mostly by ear. Besides, why would I bother anyways, as you don't take any arguments anyway? You just pick out one silly phrase to troll...

Highpitched whining noise; how to get rid of it?

There's also the Rane papers: Rane Library Enjoy them while it lasts, as Rane has been taken over by some large entity. Sorry, forgot the name. It's not Harman, for once.

    Speaker positioning

I understand that feeling... But some of us DO want to learn. And it's a bit ironical that in both the cases of the rules that got some here up in arms (38% and the equilateral triangle), the person who created them states that these rules are only true if: - it isn't a very small room - the...

    Help with setup

There's a zero-day exploit in Edge, atm. (zero-day means there's no fix yet and it was published without warning the makers). So IE just might be a little safer for now...

Interface Vs. Preamp Vs. Mixer (Blue Yeti Pro)

Isn't the Blue Yeti Pro a USB mic? What would you need the Focusrite for? Or is the Blue Yeti Pro dual USB/XLR?

Highpitched whining noise; how to get rid of it?

Resonance. I considered that too. Even the straight wire can be resonant, if the frequency is high enough. I used to have a neighbour with a 50 W cheap italian "stove" on hist CB. Came in through the phono input pf my amp. I put ferrite beads on it, that solved it mostly. Then he got a 150 W...

Highpitched whining noise; how to get rid of it?

Yes, but that capacitance isn't at the entry point where the RF gets into the mic's electronics. And it is dependent on the length of the cable and the quality, so it might not work always well.
