Just to get you started with software, this list:

If you need something specific, I'll delve into my own archives. I do need a name to find things, though, as these are on about a hundred CD's and a few dozen DVD's.
A while back, I set up an OS 9.2.1...
Work on your technique...
If an ME2 doesn't give you what you want, throwing money at it won't help either. Sure, the DPA's you mention might be a little better, but they might also reveal even more problems with the room.
A shotgun isn't really an indoors mic. Especially for a sit-down...
Sometimes it can be done, sometimes, it can't. It's a finicky job anyways...
Of course I misinterpreted that...
I've sent you some info in pm, in case you really want to restore it to "genuine" D12 status. If not, I'm looking forward to your build :D
Yes, Mark, that’s definitely not normal. I can’t even “see” immediately what kind of fault would produce that. After all, the master out isn’t even connected to phantom power.
Are you sure about that? I've repaired quite a few D12's with broken coil wires. Extremely finicky, of course.
It's a complicated capsule for a reason. The D12 wasn't intended as a bass-drum mic. It was designed as a vocal mic...
That limited ventilation was by design too. It's also the...
Sounds like a good idea.
Over here, the Spirits with analog supplies are plentiful. I imagine nobody cared enough to go the external PSU road.
I'm in the process of buying a 32/8/2 inline one. Or maybe a Tascam. The Soundcraft is a little too big. The Tascam requires more work, as the...
Yes Dave. You're absolutely right. That darned "E" series. I tend to forget about those. They didn't do to well over here. I've never had to repair one. Maybe everyone who owned one threw it out?
None of the Soundcraft PSU's are unreliable by design. The smaller mixers just have an external transformer. Easy enough to source. Ubfortunately with a proprietary connector. But if you need to, it's a good opportubity to replace ith with fi a 3. Pin mini XLR.
The serious mixers have...
Nice buy!
The Alesis is THE budget studio monitoring amp. Sounds good, easy to service.
Funny, I just bought a DBX cassette deck myself, just in case I come across some DBX encoded vinyl. I just discovered a year ago that exists...
Get someone to service what you have. The NOS one will almost certainly have the same problem: all grease has hardened because it wasn't used for a very long time.
The MKH416 (and it's predecessor 816) are "the sound of the movies". True. But what they don't tell is that it is true for outdoor recordings. It was hardly ever used indoors, and these studio's were much bigger than your room. Also, the reason it was used a lot, is that the MKH's have a very...
I know how that happens. Hype...
The entire blogosphere is praising the SM7b as the best mic for podcasting. There are numerous YT vids out there praising this mic. And it's a good mic, paired with a very good preamp, cause it's very low output.
I buy very cheap and broken LDC's, to use the...
If you don't need studio quality why are you trying to go the studio way? It just makes things much harder.
Is the room you're rehearsing in sounding good? Then it could be as simple as putting one or two mics in the sweet spot and finding the right blend while you're playing. With the right...
A 5,1 typically goes from 150-350 €,depending on content. A recent Mini fetches more, especially the server one. Haven't found one of those under 500 € yet.
For Reaper and radio, or podcasting, look at "Ultraschall". It's a set of theme, menu settings and other software for Reaper. One of these even allows to record phone converstations from Skype or other VOIP sources.
One disadvantage is that most resources are in German. The software itself is...
One I didn't think about is the Behringer UMC1820. It's around 160 £ in the UK and has ADAT for expansion. Fits nicely in the budget and works very well, see:
