how can this guy's budget setup sound so good?

Alright guys, This is no lie. I came to this forum looking for some EQ tips, clicked this thread out of curiosity, and found my own videos being analyzed. What are the chances? But, to clear things up, here's the truth. The original track used TruePianos VST for the piano sound, an AT2020 for...

    Help Me Out

Thank you very much for the information. The piano had a low pass filter on it already, but I will try the high pass and cuts later tonight. I really want the vocals to stand out, but at the same time have the music surround them. I want them to fall into place, rather than just "sit on top of...

YouTube - Rolling In The Deep -- Rock Cover DUET Official Adele Acoustic Electric Piano I was wondering if there is anyone has any suggestions on this mix. I'd like the vocals to have more cut and clarity, but anytime that I EQ them they always sound harsh and messed with... definitely not...

    What should I upgrade?

Hello all, I have been playing around with recording for about a year and half now. Until now, my gear has always been good enough for me. I'm not recording anything technically difficult... most of the time just just piano/guitar/vocal. I have a small collection of inexpensive gear. I'm not...

    Behringer c1 or mxl 990

Also, the AT2020 is only ~$65 new on Amazon. Amazon.com: Audio Technica AT2020 Side Address Cardiod Condensor Studio Mic: Musical Instruments It's a better mic for only about $20 more, if you can stretch it. Don't forget a Pop-Filter either. I didn't use one in that project, but had I had one...

    Behringer c1 or mxl 990

The vocals for this project were all recorded with a C1, even the choral parts. Take a listen in 720p to get a feel for that it can acomplish. YouTube - Until The Whole World Hears

    Behringer c1 or mxl 990

Here's my setup: Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer Behringer FCA202 Behringer C1, AT2020, Shure SM57 and SM58 The C1 came with the package that I purchased in my beginning days of recording, and as a first mic I think that it is FAR better than the MXL990. Sure, it has that high-end sparkle that most...

    Rate This Please

YouTube - Justin Bieber -- Pray (Official Video) - Live Acoustic Piano Cover I realize that this is a simple mix, but I feel as if it needs some sort of extra mastering/eq-ing to give it a more professional edge. Thanks!

    Do you like this?

No offense, but the autotune is so distracting that it ruins the whole song. Try turning the retune speed up (50-110) and the humanize up (30-50) and see what happends.

    Please Rate my vocals

I believe rather than off-syncing your vocal track, you should focus on EQ-ing and finding the right suite of effects for it. (Delays, Reverbs, etc.) Layering can be a good thing, as long as its done in a way that complements the song. However, I really like that song! Sounds like a good work in...

    Blue Bluebird vs AT2041SP

Hey Everyone, I am planning on doing a little home studio upgrade this week, consisting of a headphone amp, a new set of headphones, stands, pop filters, etc. Also, I'm planning on purchasing a new mic. I have narrowed my choices down to either a Blue Bluebird or Audio Technica AT2041SP. The...

Newbie: Record Acoustic Piano & Vocals

Personally, I was wanting to spend $300-$500, but that may be going way underbudget. I'm not against recording to a computer, but a standalone recorder is preferable. Any thoughts as to mics, equipment, etc?

Newbie: Record Acoustic Piano & Vocals

Hi All, This is my first post on HomeRecording.com. Seems to be a great community. Hope to learn more and contribute in every way that I can. My question is this: I have recently purchased a new Bergmann Piano (May 2009), and I would like to know the best way to record. I am looking at going...
