Dear Dragon, Adjust for DC offset?

Hello There was a question on DC offset a few weeks ago, you should be able to see it at https://homerecording.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000342.html Adjusting (i.e. fixing) the offset is just a matter off adding or subtracting a value from each sample of a recording, in order to center the waveform...

    Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96

Just what I wanted to hear :) Well, my last email got the response of real-soon-now, either that means that they've given up on giving out dealines (first time I've gotten this resonse from them), or they're actually getting close... Oh well, it's not like I had anything else to spend the...

    recording quality vs. synth quality

Hi As anyone who has listened to any of my gripes knows, the Direct Pro hasn't been released yet, they're saying 'reeeal soon now' in response to my nearly-daily emails. It has one midi input and output, but no, it doesn't have a midi synthesizer built in. For sound quality of the synth, I'd...

Storing tracks and beats on Zip

I'm not sure if there are too many stand alone units which use zip drives, it would be overkill for a midi system, and just plain too slow for audio, unless the system had a hard drive as well. Anybody heard of anything? William Underwood

    HD performance for 24-bit/96KHz

In order to move 16 tracks of 24/96 audio of your hard drive, it would have to be able to move 8 megs per second. My 5400rpm ide drive will do about 2.6megs/s, I'm not sure how much faster a 7200rpm drive would go, probably around 3-4 megs/s. At this rate, you wouldn't be able to play 16...

    Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96

Roblab: me too!! Well, Aardvark says they'll be shipping on december 13, hopefully it'll find it's way to my igloo by the 25 (don't even get me started on mail delays)... :) William Underwood

    Setting up my computer...

Now, if only you could get the sound card in order to try it... Aardvark's latest date on its release is December 13, if your lucky, you'll be able to get one from the initial shipments, otherwise, it could be a while before you can get anything from them. ***impatient with Aardvark***...

All encoders are not created equal!

One reason which blade may sound inferior at 128kb/s: it was designed with higher bitrates in mind. Try encoding something with blade at 256kb/s, and the same with SCMPX, and compare. Might be worth checking out, butI've been known to be wrong before. Good luck! William Underwood

    Is it still Scuzzy..or..USB..!?

Just a hunch, I don't think there's much of value as for usable usb sound hardware. Let me know if I'm wrong!! William Underwood

    Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96

Roblab: Can't say for sure. It might be a no brainer if Aardvark would get around to releasing the thing, but they haven't, so there isn't any way to check how the thing sounds. As far as the specs are concerned, aardvark seems to be slighty better, but then, it wouldn't be the first time...

    24bit vs. 16 bit?

Dondello: as far as the waveform you see on the screen, the 22khz wave is recorded as a square wave. But (and this is a big but), when it is played back, the filters which govern all digital-analogue conversions filter out the frequencies higher than 22khz, which include the overtones which...

Using CDR / CDRW to record FROM analogue?

CDRW drives can burn CDR disks, which can be played on most cd players, CDRW disks, on the other hand, rarely work in cd players.

echo reporting more tracks then I can play

One quick addition: cakewalk mixes down the audio tracks in real time to the stereo outputs on the soundcard, this requires alot more computing power than simply moving individual tracks to individual outputs on a multiple output sound card, that may explain why the measurements are off...

    Suggestions Please.

I'm not sure about the c000, e400 stuff, but it may not be a problem. In cakewalk, check in Tools | Audio Options, and see if Mono is checked off, just a thought. William Underwood

Playback/play will only play in left speaker

When you started a new file in cakewalk, did you select stereo? There should be two waveforms in the windows if it's in stereo, Goldwave may not default to that. William Underwood
