Extension to program a recording on a Revox ?

Hi, Since those Revox (A77, B77, PR99) have a plug for a remote control, I wondered if anybody designed a clock which could trigger a recording just like on a VCR for example. Sometimes I miss live classical concerts because I'm at work and can't be at home to start it manually. This extension...

1-inch 4 track heads manufacturers and retailers

Looks like these guys will find my model, but the cost will be too high. However a fellow suggested that I use Telefunken M10 heads, and guess what, the 1-inch M10 indeed used the exact same heads as my T9. So I'll try to find a block somewhere (and the connectors too.....).

1-inch 4 track heads manufacturers and retailers

Hi, I would like to find some 1 inch 4 tracks erase, record and playback heads to replace the missing ones of my 1949 Telefunken T9. Since this particular model was made in extremely small quantity (less than 20, if not up to 10), I doubt that I will ever find the originals, and the head block...

DAT tapes aging vs analog tapes ?

Hi, I recently got a few hundreds of DAT tapes containing classical recordings and radio broadcasts. Some play great, some "skip" more or less with a blank lasting about half a second. I wanted to know: - if these tapes are reliable and can be kept without digital duplication to another more...

    Will DP26, PEM268, PEM369 work on a PR99 + bias compatibility with PEM468

Hello, I got a box of the following tapes (as new): DP26 FE LH 18 PEM 369 PEM 268 I wanted to know whether they will work fine on a Revox PR99 physically talking because I don't want that they stretch due to tape tension. I also wanted to know whether they will be compatible with the actual...

Another AEG Magnetophon joined the collection

This is the post-war version of the 1939 R22, itself a broadcast version of the K4. Considering the 750rpm synchronous motor and the 0.96cm removable capstan like on some Akai models, this runs both 19/38 speeds. I don't think there ever was a larger capstan to run at 76cm/s. I still don't know...

What tape machine to "analogize" digital sound before re-recording on PC/MAC ?

What tape machine to "analogize" digital sound before re-recording on PC/MAC ? Hi, My brother is a professional digital music composer and lives in Paris. He wants to "warm" some sounds and samples by playing them from his Mac, recording them on tape, and re-recording them on the Mac. I don't...

Vollmer Magnetton 009 (ca. 1948): any ideas on the design (see pics)

Hi, I'm wondering how this old machine really works. It has only one head and so, plays full track tapes at 15ips and 30ips (and it's currently in working order, at least for the playback mode). The machine is mainly operated using a 3-position lever right to the pinch roller (follow link for...

Yes they are present so I can always send them to Terry. But I hoped to find cheaper originals or exact replicas if possible.

    1950s Columbia & HMV pre-recorded tapes

Hi, I wanted to know whether there is a database somwhere of those tapes sold by Columbia and HMV (and also others) in the 1950s. I'm mainly interested to know about the MONO tapes, but also those 2-track stereo which seem to have disappeared in the early 1960s. The reason of this question is...

What was the "floppy disk" mixer used with this 24-track tape ?

You can never know why one 2" tape shows up in a flea market. My guess is that it's possibly recorded by an unknown artist or group which never surfaced, and that some guy kept the tape and disposed of it 24 years later. The only information is that the artist/group is called "Zeitoun" and that...

What was the "floppy disk" mixer used with this 24-track tape ?

Hi, I just found a 2" Ampex 456 tape in a flea market. It's marked 24-track master and dated 1987, and also contains one 8" floppy disk which seems to be a backup of the mixer settings. I didn't know that mixers could save on floppy in these years. Anybody knows what mixer(s) may have been...

Why broadcast audio tapes didn't use different azimuts to reduce diaphony ?

I meant cross-talk. On another forum some people explained that using non-orthogonal gaps would have been disastrous to the bandwidth.

Why broadcast audio tapes didn't use different azimuts to reduce diaphony ?

I'm just wondering why stereo tapes (2-track, broadcast) didn't use different azimuts like video tapes (i.e //// on L channel and \\\\ on R channel). This would have considerably reduced (if not totaly eliminated) the diaphony, and also allowed larger tracks of 3mm for example, thus better...

What digital recorder for live concerts and broadcasted concerts ?

What's the differences between the Nagra VI and the Nagra LB other than the number of tracks ? I don't really need six tracks, I'm not a sound engineer. I also heard that the LB still had some (although rare) cpu crashes. How true is this ? Other question: do I really need to record at over...

Gray Revox 10" tape: type and compatibility ?

Hi, Just got ten 10" Revox reels in light gray plastic case. The tapes have a dark gray backside and almost black oxide. Anyone knows what type this is, and what are the closent tapes speaking of bias and maximum recording level ? Are these equivalent to Maxell 35 and RMG35 ? Thanks !

What digital recorder for live concerts and broadcasted concerts ?

Hi, The question is kinda difficult to ask especially since things move so fast and since there must be so many solutions, but at least this will avoid some obvious mistakes. I'm still using a Revox PR99 to record broadcasted concerts, and sometimes happen to record piano competitions in Paris...

Revox B77 Level pots: how to use 25K instead of 5K ?

No way to do that, I thought about it but the pot is maintained by small rivets and the size of the resistor is not standard.

Revox B77 Level pots: how to use 25K instead of 5K ?

The problem is, those pots have a very specific mounting. I have hundreds of pots in stock, but Studer models are only available from them or on a used machine. And they are obviously expensive: 65 euros including VAT per pot.
