Help making live recordings from mackie board

Thanks so much for the reply! I will look at Audacity and Reaper to see which one I like best. We had discussed before whether to put a mic back by the board or take the signals straight from the board and liven it up with software....but never thought of combining both! Given that we're a...

    Your Opinion On Amp Sims

My live rig consists of a RP500 and K10, so I basically live in the 'sim' world for all of my guitar and bass sounds. I haven't done much recording in the past few years, but when I feel like playing around, it sure is nice to be able to directly record the exact same tones I am used to hearing...

Help making live recordings from mackie board

We recently upgraded the soundboard at our church to a mackie vlz3 3204. It has a USB out for recording to the computer. If I understand the manual correctly, you can simlutaneously record the 4 subgroups as individual tracks to the computer. My questions are #1) what recording software should...

Tube Amp Comparison: Unbiased Ears Tell A Very Interesting Story

I think the variable that's missing here is the band mix. As a sweeping generalization (yes there are exceptions) tube amps usually stand up better in the mix and have more cut than solid state amps. IMO, that's why a lot of people still prefer them to SS technology.

When do you get time to play?

I lost all of my speed and dexterity 13 years ago when I got married and life started happening. Keep with it, you'll find your balance and where guitar fits in. The main thing is to enjoying playing. You can still grow musically even if you don't have the unlimited hours to spend practicing...

    Real difference b/w MIA/MIM Fenders

Having both MIM and american standard fenders, I can definitely tell a difference between the two. The general playability of the MIAs are more to my liking as well as the tones they produce. Is MIA worth the extra $$$s over the MIM? It is to me as they allow me to get that little extra...

    Turd-Polishing: Telecaster Style

I was in the same situation a couple years back. I had picked up a nashville tele when they were still affordable ($400). It was a serviceable and reliable guitar, but it just didn't meet my expectations. I installed a brass 3-barrel bridge from stew mac and some american series tele pick ups in...

    Classic 30

I guess it depends on how close your neighbors are. If you're in an apartment or townhome....I'd say no. I think that C30's sound better at lower volumes than most tube amps do....but if you're recording, you'll want to crank it up to get more of the mojo going. All IMHO of coarse. :)

How much of that solo did you "write" ?

For leads, I'll always work something up and rehearse it a couple times before laying it down to a track. Then all I usually do is copy it to another track, pan them hard left and right and add either a subtle doubling effect or delay to one of the sides to thicken it up a little. Sometimes I'll...

    Delay stomp box

I replaced a Hardwire DL-8 with a Carbon Copy and am pretty pleased with the results. In one word, the Carbon Copy is 'warmer' sounding than the DL-8. Digital delays are 'usually' very crisp and exact in their reproduction as opposed to analog delays which 'usually' saturate at longer delay...

Thinking about getting a vox ac30...

#1) The AC30 CCs are great amps and sound killer. I ran mine using the normal channel 99% of the time for clean sounds and used a Vox Satchurator in front for the dirt sounds (the satch sounds great with the vox, not so much with other amps though...go figure ) #2) The blues are...

    boss metal-zone mt-2 pedal seek a soulmate

I have an old MT-2 pedal I keep around to scratch the ocassional 'metal itch'. My secret for using it is that I only use the level and gain on the metal zone keeping the EQ completely flat and instead use a boss GE-7 EQ pedal to shape the sound. It can take some time tweeking everything, but I...

    Fender Prosonic

I'd say $600-$800 depending on the condition and if it's a head or a combo. FWIW, I don't think that the heads have reverb, only the combos.

    Fender Prosonic

I used to own a prosonic for a while and can tell you that it's defintley a cool amp. It's all tube with a selectable output that give you options for 30 watts (tube rectified), 50 watts (tube rectified) and 60 watts (ss rectified). It definately has the fender mojo going on for the cleans and...

Will raising the bias of my amp give me more clean headroom?

The AC30 custom classics have a switch on the back to go from 22 watts to 33 watts. This is what they are refering to in the video. At 33 watts, there is more clean headroom available. I'm sure that the bias must change somehow, but I'm not sure why they describe that feature as rebiasing the...

Help me find a mic for live use!

An update: I went to my local music stores to see what they had....which wasn't much and no where to demo the mics. If I had wanted a SM58, I'd have been all set. Anyways, after do a lot of interweb reseach I ordered the ND767a. I first compared it to my S12 and found the 767a to...

Help me find a mic for live use!

I appreciate all of the replies. I've never been big on the sm58s because of their upper frequence bump. It just doesn't work for me. The Audix OM6 looks promising.

Help me find a mic for live use!

Hmmm...that's up there in price and a condensor isn't going to work for me. Any opinions on an Electro Voice ND 767A or ND 967?
