ever heard of wikipedia? lol but seriously...
I can't really stand Macklemore, but I do give the guy props for working his butt off to get where he is. He basically has the typical hard working rags-to-riches story that musicians dream about. Going from playing for 50 people, to 200, to...
I'm already doing something kind of like this, but more laid back. It's basically "make an EP in three months" so it fits my schedule better :) January was writing month, February is recording, and March is mixing/mastering and release. I got it from Recording Revolution. It's pretty cool...
There will be all kinds of opinions for this, but I'm gonna say you can never go wrong with an equally balanced mic/interface equation. It's tempting to drop a lot more on the mic, but honestly if one takes the time to really get good at mic positioning and recording techniques, any old $100...
Another recommendation for the GA pre73 here. I haven't used the other pres you talked about though. The pre73 is capable of adding some nice warmth and it's always satisfied my tastes.
Anytime I think of "punchy" it's never really a good term in my mind, though I know others use it as one. I always imagine like a super-compressed kick drum or something lol :D
I had a similar issue with the Avantone CK-1 mics I bought. Fonts were a little less bold and other minute changes on one. Sent them some pics along with the serial numbers and they informed me that the mics were just made 3 years apart with a slightly altered design on the newer one. I'm...
Hmm yeah I'm sure new strings plus an instrument tune-up would help. I don't think it's really any equipment error though. I find that when I have the same problem playing around with the tone knobs helps...
But yeah smash the hell out of it with a compressor. Can't really hurt :)
Hmmm sounds like that'd be a boost more in the mid/high-mid range than the upper frequencies. That's usually what phones transmit! Anyways mid/upper stuff is called tinny, sharp, brittle, piercing, etc. Lower excess is usually bassy, muddy, or fat. I'm sure there's a bout a billion other...
Hmmm so it isn't able to record anything, but still plays pc stuff. Interesting. So are you up to date regarding drivers? I've never used Pro Tools so I can't help regarding settings but something sounds like it might be off in your connection settings.
Oh and I know what you mean about the inputs. That drives me nuts, and it was a big reason I bought a Tascam us1641 in the first place--8 XLR inputs. I was just checking out a big Focusrite one (18 inputs) that had four XLR inputs....ridiculous. I honestly kind of wonder why the ratio is so...
Hmmm I don't really have a specific number, but 2 XLR inputs by themselves (a lot of entry models) just seems too small. 2-4 XLR plus 1 or 2 line inputs would be perfect, but it's proving surprisingly hard to find one in a price range that I like. The 18i8 is cool but I'm not looking to spend...
Thanks I'll definitely check those out. I've heard good things about them before regarding their preamps plus I'm a sucker for red gear :D
I had a brain fart and completely forgot the preamp isn't engaged on the input when it's set to line in (it's one of those guitar/line in option ones)...
Hey all,
So I'm looking for a audio interface with probably 4 inputs at the most that I can use for an "on-the-go" recording setup. All I've got now is a Tascam 1641 which is great but not very portable for me. I've been out of the audio interface game for 4 years now so I'm not really up to...
