    Headphone advice please

+1 for the hd280's. I've got the hd380's and they rock. I've also got the KRK KNS 8400's as a secondary pair and they're good too. Like Steen said, the Sennheiser coiled cable can be pretty annoying. I thought it was cool at first, but it really limits your mobility and does catch on stuff...

    Studio monitors

Mono is gonna make a comeback!

    Studio monitors

I wouldn't say it's completely different, and yeah it's not a top option to mix on cans, but I'd still take a nice pair over 5" monitors. They're just as dicey :D

If you could sound like anyone...?

Could I get the godly voice of slighty less-old Morgan Freeman? Thanks.

Is it a good idea to add reverb AND delay to vocals?

 Haha oh yeah I forgot :D

    Using My Head Voice?

Yeah I'd say you sound more like a countertenor than a bass, but your teacher could have been differentiating between tenor/bass I suppose. I thought it sounded good.

    Studio monitors

Idk dude. I'm sure others won't agree but I'd rather mix on a nice pair of headphones than 5" monitors. At the minimum I'd try for a 6" one (they are usually actually 6.5").

Is it a good idea to add reverb AND delay to vocals?

add reverb and delay to everything :thumbs up: Then put a super-long verb on the master track too. 100% wet. /troll

    Did anyone do American Idol?

I went with a friend to her audition for The Voice (omg kill me. We waited like 10 hours. It was kinda fun though I guess.) They had a really weird set up....a bunch of tables with the initial judges (or "Staffers") at them, and a bunch of curtains on the other side. She said it really threw...

If you could sound like anyone...?

I've seen John Cooper live a few times. I don't honestly know how his vocal chords and stuff can take that night after night but it sounds pretty awesome. I'd probably pick Matthew Bellamy from Muse or Steve Perry. They're both pretty sick. I'd like a little more grit though.

Can I sing? Or hit a note at least? Torment!

Both. And people needing voice lessons is usually the answer, because obviously they are failing to learn how to sing well by themselves. The right voice coach can help a ton. Take some lessons if you truly love music.

    Can I sing?

You are a prime candidate for vocal lessons. Take them and practice, and I think you'll be good. Your technique and pitch are just off.

    Fostex studio monitors

Yeah, I think the smaller Fostex monitors like the 6.5" and the 5" struggle with accurate bass reproduction, but no more than similar monitors of other brands would do as well. If one got the PM841's for example, I think they'd sound quite nice. Like Jimmy said, an 8" driver is a great...

    Fostex studio monitors

I upgraded from the KRK G2 6" monitors to the Fostex PM641s a month or two ago, and I'm loving it. The KRKs were great too, but the Fostex sound a heck of a lot clearer and just overall more accurate to me. I got them for like $300 on sale though. If they'd been regular price, I wouldn't have...

Play two instruments at once? Not in this day and age.

So I'm about 99% sure that the OP was trying to say he wanted to "split" the keyboard like you can do on some keyboards. Like the bottom two octaves are playing something like a trumpet for instance, and then the next two octaves are like bells or something for example. If you're good you can...

    The first "upgrade" mic

Yeah, around there. I'd say maybe $300 is the minimum for the "next level" up from the beginner mics. I like to think there's the intro range ($100-$200), then the intermediate range ($300-$500ish), then you start getting into nicer things around the $700-$1000 range. After that I don't even...

Best cheap preamp for broadcasting. Help needed!

Hmmm very hard to find a good AND cheap preamp. Most of the cheap ones won't give you better quality than the Mackie. The "cheapest" good one in my opinion is the Golden Age pre-73, but that's 1 channel for about $350 new. Since you want two-channel...you're looking at a good chunk of change.

How to add a "crackling" sound?

I think that was the one I was talking about. Mine looked a bit different though.

How to add a "crackling" sound?

I had one on my old laptop that was free and was quite good. It let me add hiss and crackle, and also had some pretty nifty eq filters that made it sound generally more old. Can't remember the name of it though. They're definitely out there!
