D-160 wav
Thanks Ausrock for the input. What's funny is you contributed a similar post about 5 years back to a long thread on this topic: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=51223&highlight=d-160+wav
The guy trying to take WAVs from his D-160 in that thread ended up doing it by...
Hi,
I recently asked a question in this forum about the fact that since I moved from the FD-8 to the D-160, I've noticed I didn't see a way to easily find preview a punch point. With the FD-8, it had a preview function that would continuously play 2 seconds or so of the track and you could use...
This is a really general question. Without being able to take a look at the machine and play with it, it's hard to diagnose. I'd say a look at the manual would be first up. Go here if you don't have it: http://www.fostex.com/support/pdf/fostex/d90/d90_owners_manual.pdf
Fostex manuals can be a...
sorry
You're right. The correct model number is dbx 274. I'm waiting on getting it because it has no dialable frequency sensitive gating. I'm looking at a Symetrix 564E that has low and high pass filters to help pinpoint what frequencies trigger the gate.thanks for the input.
thanks. I was using a dbx 266XL trying to gate kick and snare. not much control, just threshold and range I think, so I tried patching in an EQ (Meek VC5) to the 266's key insert. Still the gate would get false triggers.
I'm thinking of buying this dbx 274 quad noise gate I"ve found for $85...
Hi,
I know I just posted a thread asking about cheap gates recently and they're like the most boring thing. But I've got a line on a few and want opinions. Which would you choose between:
-Used Valley Gatex ($99 plus shipping)
-Used dbx 242 ($85, no shipping)
-New Samson S-gate 4 ($139, no...
Thanks for all the suggestions. To answer your questions, no, I'm not tracking to software, so no chance to use software gates. Also, I'm not gating when recording; I'm doing it at mixdown. I don't suppose anyone wants to get into how they gate, like if they key certain frequencies, or what...
Hey Sevenone,
What was it about the Mackie that is so much better? I've thought of making a move to Mackie. Is it the pres, lower noise, better eq? What are the big differences?
Thanks
Hi,
I've never been good enough at tracking drums to think I might actually need to gate things. But now that I'm starting to feel like I actually know how to EQ and compress a bit, I'm listening to the bleed I get through my kick and snare mics, and the ringing in tom mics.
I guess some would...
I use an Alesis 32 in my home studio and have always liked its performance. No onboard effects and I like that. 16 inputs, 4-buss. Maybe kind of a poor man's Mackie. I don't think it will make anyone's top 3 list here, but it's been pretty solid and easy to use. There's one on eBay now at $325...
Rnp?
HI,
I understand the RNP probably being the best for the money, but I've heard it's just as clean as the RNC. I'm looking for some warmth to the signal. Thanks. I may end up tracking to analog tape to help with this, but for now I'm thinking to get it through the pre.
Hi all,
What's the best stereo mic pre under $500? Will be used for tracking of instruments and voices, BUT more importantly will be used to do remote stereo micing of full bands.
Am looking for something that imparts at least a little warmth (recording to CD burner). Will use Rode NT-1s and...
Richard, I have no doubt that you have more experience with the history of recording than I do. No disrespect, but I want to ask you a few questions. I know that the RE20 is renown in recording and is obviously a great kick drum mic. But can you explain why it seems to not be used for vocals for...
On Vox?
I'm sure it passes nice clean signal that would work for vocals, as others say above if that's all you need. My own experience trying this with the RE20 was yea it sounded fine, but it won't compare to using even a cheap condenser like the Rode NT1. Don't expect the sizzle on top or any...
More Compressors
HEre's my two cents. I have an old dbx 166 (no "X" or "XL" or anything else on the end of that!) that sounds great (stereo comp...bonus). Can be had on eBay for around $200-$250. I have played with the RNC, but it's so clean, you'll probably not like it for bass. Another...
one vote for m-audio
HI,
I tried Alesis and KRK before I settled on the m-audio's in this price range. They aren't speaks your ears have to "learn" as far as I can tell. They just give a pretty accurate idea of the sound. The Alesis and KRKs both seemed to trick my ears again and again. Don't...
Cdr???
HI,
Thanks for the reply. Good info. But wondering about your CD-R comment. The reason I even thought about a DAT was I went back to some old mixes done on CD-R and found after about 6 years they had really degraded. Even on good quality discs. Getting worried that maybe these things...
Hi all,
I came across two DAT machines being sold for cheap by a guy upgrading his studio. Got both the 3700 and 3800 for about $150. I knew they had high hours and was gambling that at least one would work well (both look in good shape). Well, both units play and record, but the SV3800 (with...
