Some of that is by design...see Fagen/Mancini reference. Some of that isretarded drum programming by me. No matter how loose I try to quantize, and in some places eschewing quantization altogether, it always sounds like programmed drums. I've got to get a real, meat-drummer in front of this...

Yes...it needs to be the Texas Instruments 1394 Chipset. It appears to be the only one that handles audio particularly well. If your onboard FW is not using this, that's likely the problem.

Outside of a driver conflict, are you using the TI chipset on the FW card?

There have been many, many vocal "scratch" tracks done on ye olde 58 that have ended up on the final mix. Sometimes, they do deliver...totally depends on the program material.
