1/2" tape AND Pro Tools; Am I nuts?

..........."This has worked for you? Without syncing the tape machine to the DAW. I tried this and the tape tracks drifted enough over the course of the song that I couldn't make it work without serious (and wierd) correction edits. That *was* before I replaced my sticky pinch roller... I'll...

1/2" tape AND Pro Tools; Am I nuts?

There won't be a delay if your version of Protools has full delay compensation on internal and external signals. Nuendo has this (pings the external paths of reverbs, compressors, eqs, sound modules, tape machines etc etc), figures the delay or latency and then seamlessly compensates the...

    Recording Ambient Noise

There are a bazillion hand held stereo recorders that can capture sound at really high rez...many of them have usb outs so you can later dump the audio or wavs into a computer for editing. I see them everywhere for anywhere from $100-149...from Sears to Target to Best Buy.

The Voice of Music - Stereo Phonic Recorder 722???

Well well well...you found my very first tape recorder!! The one I used to sit and stare at before I had even started 1st grade! My parents had two of those machines (mono and stereo) and I think I became hooked on tape recorders as a little kid when I'd see those reels turning while the...

2 Layla 24's, 1 PCMCIA card, can it be done???

Won't work. The second Layla's adat i/o isn't active unless the entire box is hooked up to the/a pc via the layla's data connector on the back of the breakout box. As far as expansion, you don't need that limited-time expander that Echo made .... We have 3 layla 24's and 2 Layla 3gs roaming...

    TSR-8 remote?

Yes, but I think I'll hang onto the 408 for now. Thanks for the offer. That Taspunch looks pretty cool. I've heard of it before but never really looked at it's structure. It would probably also work with Win Xp after running the xp compatibility wizard. I'll have to play around with that...

    Taking Volcals Out....

..........I found a vst plugin on kvraudio that removes the center channel, which is where the main vocal is usually located.... ----------------------------- But see..that's not true. "Vocal located in center"...always the common marketing line...but it's not true. The vocal sits in the...

    TSR-8 remote?

I have an rc408 boxed up somewhere around here. Because the tsr8 here has mostly only been used with a Midiizer all these years, I've only used the 408 a few times with it. If the offer were right, I might sell it. What have these things been going for when you all see them around? If it's...

    TSR-8 sync TSR-8

Yes, I have extensive experience syncing Tascam stuff for over 30 years...Tsr 8's to msr 24's...to 85-16's ...to daws...to hard drive recorders. I've pretty much synchronized everything in the Tascam line to each other and to outside machines. If you have two tsr 8 machines that you want to...

    Digital question for analogue recordists

Depends on how you want to work. I use 6-8 pcs here, all sync'd together, some with 16 inputs via cards and one with 48 inputs (between 3 installed cards). In cases where I transfer stuff from analog (tsr8, 8516b, msr24) I can do it in one pass, which saves time. For analog transfers I do...

    Sound-on-Sound Decks?

...."Any semi-modern decks that have this feature...." If you call the mid 60s to the mid 70's "semi-modern", there were all of the Sony Superscope series recorders. Most all models had sound-on-sound...and/or "echo". I had a Sony at one point in the mid 60's and I still have some of the old...

    16 tracks - 2 8-channel mixers?

Not sure what bang-for-the-buck mixer to recommend. It's funny..if I had stood in front of Michael Tapes in 1977 and told him his pride and joy creation (the SW 1280) would be selling for $200 in the future..he probably would've punched me in the mouth. Who would've known back then! By the...

    16 tracks - 2 8-channel mixers?

Another problem with mixing on two separate mixers is this... Say you have 8 or 12 of your tape tracks going into 8 or 12 channels of the SWorkshop for mixing. You decide you want reverb on a few of those channels. You hook up your reverb unit to the SWorkshops "send out #1" (or whatever) and...

    Uneven Tape Winding

All tape will wind unevenly onto reels after ff and rew. Unless tape is so far out that it's scrunched, bent, creased against the outer reel, uneven packs are normal after ff/rew. That's why spool modes were invented. If your machine has a "spool" button, activate it at the end of the...

    16 track reel to reels..

.........."was after the straightforward 85 16 (orange) waiting for it to be fully serviced, then the (B) model showed up ready to go, so I've ended up with a grey one. Apparently there was a technical error in the colour choice, it was never meant to be orange, but its one of those things that...

    EMAGIC LOGIC: Midi Sync Mode

There seem to be a few 688/pc sync discussions around already...one I notice on the Tascam boards.

    EMAGIC LOGIC: Midi Sync Mode

....use Tascams MTS (Midi Tape Sync build in system).... There's your problem. The mts system is only for starting/stopping midi clocks over a period of time in relation to a recorded off/on tone recorded to tape. It was a primitive method to allow standalone midi equipment to "sort of" play...

    EMAGIC LOGIC: Midi Sync Mode

Not enough information. Have you striped smpte on the 688? Which frame rate used? What is your computer interface card? Does it read smpte? does it successfully communicate with the smpte coming from 688? Or is it expecting mtc and not smpte? what are logic's smpte settings at? Or are...
