Rycote InVision Universal Microphone Shock Mount - New Low Price

It's probably mostly due to the collapse of the £ after the Brexit vote  It certainly makes UK manufactured goods much cheaper in the US.

    e835 :thumbs up:

    Shure SM58s or Alternatives?

Yes, really, the tailored response of the SM58 is well known. It's the reason it became so popular in the first place.

    Shure SM58s or Alternatives?

Although the e835 *is* a good choice - the SM58 has a tailored response that helpsthe vocal cut across a backing band. The Sennheiser microphones that also have this "cut-through" response are the e840 and e935. Personally I would get the Sennheiser over the Shure.

    Recording Grand Piano

I *have* actually recorded a piano recital in a space not that different from the one described. I found omni mics were much better than directional ones (and I tested beforehand). But - the position was quite different from that which I would normally use. I listened and walked around and...

    Recording Grand Piano

Recording solo grand piano is my speciality. First - you need a good piano in a good room - the piano *has* to sound good in the room. Second - you really need a pair of omni mics (you lose the bottom octave with directional mics). My starting position is 20cm spaced omnis at about 2m from...

    Searching for My First Mic

If money is tight and you want to do the best you can at a low budget - then I would look at the Focusrite Scarlett Solo studio bundle.

If You could only have one mic which of the following would it be?

I would not have any of the listed mics - my choice would be a Sennheiser MKH 800 or a Gefell UMT 70S or UMT 800

    What microphone is this?

I would hate to be the owner of that mic. The diaphragm will be filthy with all the smoke particles that are naturally attracted to the diaphragm. If you smoke outside and then come into the studio to sing, your lungs are full of smoke particles that will stick to the diaphragm. Always use a...

    advice on buying michrophone

Of course - I did not say don't buy cheaper - but I did say it's always best to get the best you can afford. If waiting an extra month or two to save up the extra money is possible, then that's what I would do - if it's a very long wait, then buy cheaper and start making music. Agreed - but...

Any such thing as decent wireless headphones for recording?

The answer really is: NO. Most modern headphones are digital and therefore have delay (latency) - so are not suitable, however good they are. The only way is an FM IEM system and these are not cheap. The best way is a cable.

    advice on buying michrophone

Not at all - $800 is far too cheap a mic. for me to use for recording vocals - $1,200 is about the cheapest I would use and ideally a lot more (most of my own mics ae $1,500 plus). I was just saying that $800 is about the starting price for a good mic. (equating to about £500 UK). Below this...

    Help microphone?

You won't get "very professional for radio broadcast" for € 150-200. For that budget you will get a cheap Chinese mic. that may be OK (ish). Yes, a decent pop-filter is essential, I would say, as it not only prevents plosives, it also protects the diaphragm from contaminents (especially if you...

    advice on buying michrophone

What's your budget? A good vocal mic. is normally in the region of £800 to several thousand. You can get cheaper, but after a while you will want to replace with better. If you buy wisely at the start a good mic. will last you forever (I still have mics that I bought in 1985 that are still...

    DYnamic Mic problem!!!Help!!!

The mic. on the headphones would be an electret mic. and will receive plug-in power from the computer - which is why it works. Dynamic micropholnes are less sensitive and can be damaged by plug-in power. You need yo set up the sound card of the computer properly to switch off plug-in power and...

Anyone still use the AKG D190E?

Really ??? The D190 was one of the most popular microphones AKG ever made. In its day it was in almost every church and village hall and the gooseneck version was always the talkback mic. of choice. In, effect, it was the poor man's D202. It was an OK neutral dynamic that could be put to a...

Sennheiser MK4 versus Neumann TLM103 and the law of diminishing returns

The Sennheiser MK4 is made by Sennheiser and Neumann microphones are made by Neumann. OK, let's put this right - Sennheiser own Neumann Berlin (Neumann's 2nd company) and Neumann microphones are made in a Neumann factory in the same complex near Hannover where Sennheiser microphones are made...

    vintage cassette tapes?

DTK??? - I presume you mean TDK. The D120 is a basic 2-hour tape, very thin tape and prone to stretching and print-through. I never used these as they are too fragile. It also depends on how old these are as the packaging of the standard D series changed over the years. The MA-R90 is a...
