What would be the best microphone to record opera?

Then I suggest to pop over tio Glyndebourne and talk to the person who records all the operas there as you are close to them. They used a pair of SDC omnis - They did use Earthworks then (quite a few years ago) but the Gefell M221, Josephson C617set and Neumann KM133 are quieter nowadays.

Go-to Mic for Voice Over work

:D You put the microphone stand as a "T" - hang the duvet over it and put it behing the speaker (person not loudspeaker). This prevents room reflections reflecting into the microphone - it works very well. :thumbs up:

Go-to Mic for Voice Over work

Yes and no - you can work very well at home with a mic. like the M 930 (or U87, TLM 102/3, etc.) and a duvet hung over a mic. stand.

Go-to Mic for Voice Over work

This is the third forum I have seen this exact same question posted ????? High quality and affordable and around your budget - the Gefell M 930. More expensive - the Neumann U 87 The MKH 416 is a gun mic. and best used for dialogue replasement when the original was also recorded with a 416 -...

What would be the best microphone to record opera?

A friend of mine used to do all the recording at Glyndebourne - he used a pair of omnis, widely spaced, slung below the lighting bar over the audience. So an excellent pair of inexpensive omnis would be the Line Audio OM1 (anything better costs a lot more).

How much bandwidth do you need?

This poll is meaningless - numbers wothout saying what they are means nothing and without more information also nothing.

    Is the me66 good?

The ME 66 is NOT a hyper-cardioid - it is an interference tube microphone - a gun microphone. The capsule itself is super-cardioid and the interference tube on the front makes it more directional as frequency increases. As such, it is good for picking up sound and keeping the mic. out of shot...

    Looking to buy a mic

When buying a mic. think things through fully, as a cheap mic. can end up being expensive in the long run. First you need a decent interface to the computer - the Focusrite Scarlett range are good value for money here and have 48V phantom power included. When it comes to the mic. itself, I...

    Which kind of recording software?????

NB: The Samplitude offer of £1,000 worth of software for £149.99 runs until tomorrow (28th Jan.) - a superb package for a pocket money price. :thumbs up:

    basic software?

Actually he wasn't. He wanted to rip CD tracks, add fades etc. and burn to CD. Samplitude can do this - you can import CD tracks, you can do custom fades and you can burn a CD drirect from the program. As well as doing loads of other things, of course. And - Samplitude have a similar offer...

At the moment Magix are doing a special promotion deal for Samplitude, Sound Forge, Spectral Layers Pro and iZotope. Normally costs over £1,000 / $1,300 and available for just £114.99 / $149.00 - this is a stupidly low price for such amazing software. You get:- 12 discs: 01)Samplitude Pro X3...

    Line In not working

Sometimes I find that when things don't work, just doing a re-boot will fix it.

Need the best microphone for professional streaming/online business consulting.

Don't agree.... A "cough" button would be better than a PTT switch. And - a good headmic. should be positioned to the side of the mouth and would avois nose blasts. You also get a consistant sound quality and don't get drop-outs due to head movements.

    Mic, meet Mic

This sort of things normally only happens with cheap mics. I heard of a guy who had to test 50 Neumann TLM 103 mics purchased by a broadcaster - there was no more than 0.5dB difference between any of them, the were all virtually identical.

Need the best microphone for professional streaming/online business consulting.

I would get a DPA headmic. It will give you the quality and isolation you need. If you need a normal mic. people will see a large mic.in fromt of you - the headmic. will be virtually invisible, especially if you get one close to your skin tone.

    Microphone without shrill?

It's the Chinese stuff that tends to be shrill - so avoid these. Just take care in choosing and preferably try before yoy buy.

Suggestion for Canon camera mic for sopranos?

No - an on-camera mic. is the very worst thing you can do. Use a stereo pair or stereo mic. at the proper distance to record properly and keep it away from the camera. A stereo mic. on a camera should NEVER be done as the stereo image moves and shfts as you move the camera - also - an...

    Mic stand

You must have used the cheap series, rather than the pro series. My mic. stands are nearly all the pro series (though I have a few Sennheiser versions with the better grip on the adjuster). For important work I use teh Latch Lake 1100 - superb - it's heavy and has a lot of counterweitht options.
