I'll let you guys in on my gear buying secret...
GuitarCenter.com will now ship stuff in their used inventory. So, you don't have to live near the store. I have bought so much stuff there in the last couple months because it is usually about 25% cheaper than you can get it on ebay.

I have a pretty decent variety of preamps. I am running them into a Presonus Fire Tube Studio. It has a decent AD coverter.
Preamps are...

Presonus Eureka
Presonus Bluetube
Aphex 107
ART MPA Gold
Behringer Tube Ultragain
I'm thinking about either getting a lower end...
I am looking for a nice versatile mic that would be good on snares/guitars and maybe some other ins and outs (possibly some vocals).
Which mic is better for versatility and which is better for clarity/warmth.
Thanks.
I mix almost everything first with a pair of AKG K240s and I love them. I have a really nice set of Yamaha HSM80s for monitors and they might get a quarter of the use that my headphones get. I find my headphones are more accurate now that I have been using them for years and have figured out...
I have to agree that there is no Mastering Plugin that fixes a bad mix. I don't have a good acoustic room for mixing. So, I spent a lot of money on monitors that really never sound good. However, through experience and hours of practice, I know how it should sound in my room in order for it to...
Even with just the three areas though, they made some odd choices on where to pan things. Some of them are not where you would expect the instrument to come from and it may happen for the entire song or for just a single part... at any rate, it adds a lot in my opinion.
I've even heard that there are certain tempos that fall in line with the natural tempo of the beating heart which is why older folks tend to like slower music and yonger kids faster stuff. Again, this aligns with what one is immediately familiar and comfortable with even at a natural level...
I really want to hear some of your mixes because I love the idea of just panning and placing things in certain spots for the sake of being interesting. I have tried this and I always fail, but I'd like to get better at it because I think it adds another texture to the music, like the, (dare I...
I've always heard it is best to keep it between -10db and -6db purely to allow headroom for mastering purposes. So, in some respects it dependes on what you intend to do with the final recording. If you don't plan to have it sent for mastering, then you could probably get closer to 0 that big...
Thanks.
Stereo mic configuration with a SM57 and a Blue Kickball. Not my favorite mics but they work and they were sitting there. I usually record with a 57 and a Sennheiser e609. I need to get an MD421 but it isn't in the budget yet. The 57 is too harsh and the Kickball is too muddy but...
Yeah, I got a little mixed up.
I thought you were talking about a roland RE-201 Space Echo tape delay and reverb unit.
Boss remade this into a pedal unit call the RE20. It is pretty awesome. The original RE-201 however, is awesome, expensive, and hard to find. It's also in a lot of project...
Okay, so I was happy with my drum results and decided to move forward with a couple guitar tracks. I recorded them into simple little part I did purely for testing purposes. Who knows, maybe I'll use it someday. I doubt it. Either way, I was trying to get sort of a Radiohead clean guitar sound...
I've been considering taking some online courses from FullSail or BerkleeMusic but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I started recording on fourtrack machines when I was about 14 and have been hammering away ever since. I am primarily a musician and have been in lessons of some form since I...
Yeah, at the studio is sucks but it happens a lot less there when we are paying for it.
As soon as it is me recording our band (which I play in), it's like an open door to have an authoratative opinion. They assume that, just because it's a home studio and I built it myself, they know just as...
It's nice to have a laugh about it now. It used to be a serious headache for me but I've learned that the less I respond to it, the shorter I'll have to suffer through it. I've stopped trying to explain how things actually work and I just let his talk while I set things up. He's a good dude...
I read an article about the guy who designed it and talked a lot about the different patents they have for the tube circuit etc... So it was basically saying that love it or hate it nothing will sound quite like an Aphex 107. To me, that's a good thing.
