Thanks. Yeah, the only picture I have to go off of is a picture from guitar center's used site. It didn't show much so I called and it was an MKII. Not really the one I'm looking for but it was 139$ so I bought it.

I used Protools and switched to Logic. It is just much quicker in the home studio environment. As far as qualities, each have their own positives and negatives but I find Logic faster when I mix and edit tracks. So, it won out on that level.

Is there a good way to tell from a picture which version of the MD421 you're looking at MKI, MKII, original, etc... I know this one is not vintage because the mount is plastic. Thanks, Ryan

Thanks. That is exactly the process I am looking to do. Though, I might add additional tracks via the daw because I can't get by with just 8 and from what I've read it is pretty hard to get the machine to play at the exact same speed.

Oh, and I should mention that I've done this a lot with two track reel to reel for mastering but never with the 8 tracks and dumping directly for the purpose of mixing/processing in the digital world. So, I'm interested in how tracks handle being recorded in analog but mixed digitally.

Agreed. With an instrument like violin, where you record is almost as important as how you record it. If you can find a room with a high ceiling it will sound much better. One thing I like to do with stuff like this is to have a close mic and a room mic and then blend the two into a mono track...
