    Bridge saddle screws?

3/4" drywall screw oughta do it. Actually, i saw a guy who built an entire tele from scratch and he used just regular brass screws that looked like they came from a wall outlet. He cut the head off and slotted it.

Every so often when I listen to jazzradio.com I hear a song that is complete poo

All jazz sucks. It's completely indulgent. The purpose is not to connect to the listener. the object is to go out there and pay shit that only you get. I prefer nearly all music genres to jazz except for classical. Classical sucks too. Except the kind they play in sci fi movies like thus...

What to look for in a semi/hollow

keep in mind that pickups are really really easy to change on most solidbodies. If this thing sounds bad plugged in, like shit pickups or scratchy pots, it isn't going to be super easy to swap them out.

Id it looks like this one: https://media.photobucket.com/image/Hondo%20%252527fatboy%252527/garethaverill/hondo1.jpg Then I'd think that any tunomatic would work.

What to look for in a semi/hollow

Gibson ES-175s are laminate tops, aren't they. Just to give perspective.

    Pickups of your choice

It was me. I don't want to get VP into any more trouble. Someone should go close out those ancient polls. If you vote in them without commenting, the next poor slob that makes a comment gets blamed. I thought it was cute.

Guitar amps that wives will let you keep in the living room

No. Sorry I didn't make sense. It was like a "risky business" moment. Instead of lip syncing to "old time rock and roll" in my underwear, I actually played my guitar through my stage amp in the living room (although I liked the sound better in the kitchen since it has wood floors). Most of...

Guitar amps that wives will let you keep in the living room

The last time I played my guitar with an amp in the living room was when my wife took the kids on an out of town overnite.

    Strings for Epi ES-175

What do you mean, like the Ernie Ball brand wouldn't work on a hollow body? I don't leave strings on long enough to care much about brand unless they break. I buy mostly for the packaging. Although EB recently started using a sealed plastic bag that I don't like, they still put each string in...

    Silent recording and speaker simulation

I used to record at the bass player's house and he had an attached garage. We'd put my amp in the back seat of his buick regal with a microphone and closed the doors. Another place I lived had an old refrigerator still in the corner of the kitchen. I shut a little peavey practice amp in there...

    Strings for Epi ES-175

My Epi ES-295 came with 10s and they totally sucked. Try using 11s. I use ernie ball, but some people say they suck. post a pic of your guitar. I think my 295 is pretty freaking nice for a korean made.

    Basic Snare head questions

Great tips, gentlemen and gerg. I am learning how lucky I have been over the past 15 years to have had possession of my brother's decent sounding and tuned Ludwig snare (which he just retrieved). I hope I get lucky with this orphan that I am trying to rehab. Thanks.

    Octave pedal?

I have one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/BOSS-SE-50-Super-Effects-Processor-11003_W0QQitemZ110452182916QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item19b7768f84 It's also fun to plug a microphone into and set for +8 and crank call people. You sound just like an old lady.

What do you use it for? Just curious. I have a couple 50-watt classics from that era. A 410 and a 212. Not sure I'd call them a perfect tone machine, but they have their place. They are great for what I use them for. What do you use your 160-watter for?

    Recording a Fender Strat

Less gain/distortion. Small room. Close mic the cabinet from the back. But stay away from tubes or transformer because they produce a ton of noise. A lot of gilmour stuff wasn't a strat. Another Brick in the Wall solo is a les paul. I never thought of Mick Mars as a strat player. I love...

    Basic Snare head questions

Thanks for the advice. How does a 2-ply head sound different than a 1-ply? Is it just for strength? I use light sticks and would never gig. This will be low-hours for sure. I am just wanting to optimize for a good sound. I probably won't replace them in my lifetime after this. What would...

    Basic Snare head questions

I am a barroom guitar monkey and do some recording. I use synthetic drums mostly, but I prefer an acoustic snare. I have a 14" metal premier snare and I am planning to get some heads. I play simple roots music. I do use brushes more than a little. I was planning on getting a coated head for...

    Fender or Gibson?

Why you gotta attack me? Clapner said it. :D I don't much like gibbies as they seem more like furniture than a tool. You never see a candy-apple red chest-of-drawers. Give me a shiny thick paintjob over iced-tea burst any day. Further, a feel like strats and teles have a more transparent...
