    shure ?

I am just a scorned lover. I have used 58s, and a 55sh live for years and i played my last 2 gigs with a 57. I love how you can get right up on the capsule. I love how it sounds through the PA and monitors. I freaking love that mic. And since it was only used as an amp mic for 15 years...

    shure ?

you can't record vocals with a dynamic mic. you need to save your pennies and buy any condenser mic. You can make a really good instrumental recording with a 57 only. But you add a vocal track recorded with one and it sounds like you recorded it in your basement. At least that is my experience.

    Guitars with Floating Bridge

i set the intonation with the saddles once and every time it needed tweaked since, I just push the entire bridge back and forth. UNless you pin them, they can slip slide around a little.

Get Up! An ode to an agoraphobic.

I don't think I have a good enough voice for reverb so i always use delay. As a guitar player, I guess I feel that I'm allowed to put as much ketchup on as possible. I was facing a wall rather closely when I recorded the vocals and I don't really like the way they recorded. I can do those...

Three Suns (New Original From Propman)

I liked it. The scratchy record parts sounded a little too crisp to be a phonograph. Sounded like something was broken. I think taking a bit of edge off that would make it a bit more poetic. Unless you wanted it to sound like a blown power amp. In which case, it's perfect. Might be a bit...

Get Up! An ode to an agoraphobic.

note to self: switch sides on headphones every once in a while I am pretty deef on the left side. This is like the second attempt at using those alesis electronic drums and they are panned weird. My deafness made me not notice. Maybe it's my laptop, but the soundclick sounded pretty boxy...

Get Up! An ode to an agoraphobic.

I had a friend who needed a pick me up a while back. Three months later I recorded this as a response. I think she's picked up by now. http://www.soundclick.com/brettmitchell The song is called get up. There are a few mistakes. I think the vocals might be a little low. I actually will...

    studio guitar leads

I don't buy cheap cables and they last a long time because I take care of them. They don't sound any different to me until they are done lasting a long time. Then i throw them away and buy another. But I am a guitar player and i am likely deaf in that frequency that allows some of you to tell...

    My D String Keeps Breaking!

I break D strings all the time. If I play 2 gigs on one set of strings, I always break a D or A string. I never break plain strings. A d-string in a set of 9s has a pretty small core in it. Take your broken string and take the winding off. It's probably smaller than a 9 plain string, isn't...

    preamp vs power amp distortion/drive

Well, now it has a name I guess. I have an old classic 20. I keep the master up all the way and then turn up the pre gain till it just starts to get ornery. All this time, I was just calling it "personality".

    preamp vs power amp distortion/drive

Why are you looking at it academically? You turn the knobs until it sounds good. What the fu ck is power amp distortion anyway? Why would you be trying to acheive a sound based on its description rather than how much it hurts your back teeth?

Help me pick a budget bass amp

Geddy lee isn't out shopping for sideman gigs in my area. ;) I was responding to a post that seemed to think that it would be OK for you to pump your bass through the vocal monitors because an amp is unnecessary. And that is batshit. clearly a player, particularly a sideman is responsible...

Help me pick a budget bass amp

You're batshit. Sound reinforcement? If you want to get hired as a sideman, you should probably have a freaking amp. "I don't need one. I have a sansamp."

    Guitar amp Vs PA?

This is where we part. I know that a pod will sound fine through the PA and no one who listens to a bar band can tell a good sound from a great sound. It just doesn't do shit for me. Maybe if I had a really good guitar monitor that sounded great to me. Or headphones or something. It would...

Help me pick a budget bass amp

I got a used peavey mark iV (or mark VI) head and a 1x15 fender cab from some fellow musician down on his luck. Good enough for me. I think I got it for $200. Well, it was $200 he owed me. Don't know the currency exchange rate for money out of pocket versus money owed.

    Guitar amp Vs PA?

i read alot of these replies. I will say that if you can play out with an emulator pod thing, you're obviously alot better than me. I can't deal. A friend of mine is a great player going back years and years. He has some kind of floor unit that he plays through. It's not even a good one...

    Bridge saddle screws?

I take shit to the home depot all the time and test fit screws until I find the right one. Just push the threaded end through the plastic and screw it into your saddle. It should just be some standard thread. They have a bag of 100 pickguard screws for like $.89 but they are zinc plated and...
