10 gauge on a stunt guitar?

Stunt guitar. that's funny. I am doing some work on my "stunt guitar". It has a floyd and started life as a kramer focus. the neck is on another project. I bought a mighty mite neck off ebay that was a total shitpiece. It's big as a ball bat and the fretwork kind of sucks. I am hacking it...

    Any Favorite Acoustics?

I got rid of my gallagher. It was a really nice guitar, but I just didn't play it that much. I got what I had into it plus a supposedly top of the line yamaha that I don't play very much either. The gallagher was really loud and sounded really full, but it was a bitch to play. I have a...

    Bass through board question

I got a great sound a while back by running the bass through my old classic 20 and line out into the board. Really punchy and full. I used a tube pre another time and it sounded mostly like shit. Direct with nothing? worse than shit.

Looking for help with pedalboard issue

In theory. I agree that the delay, in order to effectively emulate "space" needs to be after the established tone. But I don't use chorus or flanger that way. Thought they are time based effects, they are warblers that I use to affect drive just like a wah. As I said, I use delay before the...

Looking for help with pedalboard issue

Why do you consider applying signal treatment before the gain stage as "degraded". would wah also be considered degradation?

Looking for help with pedalboard issue

Yeah, I guess that's what I like about it. It sounds artificial when your intact tone is warbled versus the warbling being a component of the tone.

Looking for help with pedalboard issue

Just my 2-cents: I think it sounds like ass to put flanger/chorus/phasor after distortion. Per the hendrix/evh precedent, you want to grit up the modulated sound and not modulate the grit. In the 80s i was modulating the grit and I hate my recordings from back then.

    Free Casters! Really!

Most newer office chairs have shitty plastic wheels designed to roll fat american asses on carpet. they probably won't last on pavement/sidewalks. That doesn't mean I'm not going to take a walk around and see what I can scrounge up. Thanks.

Looking for help with pedalboard issue

I agree compressor first. Then I do modulation effects like phaser, flanger, chorus, wah. Fuzztone. Delay. But, I don't do that shit anymore. I actually just use delay into my tube amps which are just barely distorted. The distorted delay sound is totally that rockabilly twang I want. My...

Guitar/amp feedback, the good type - how?

This works well. I jam the end of the headstock up against the speaker baffle and hold it solidly. The vibration of the amp cabinet is transferred to the guitar and cause the strings to vibrate. It's like mechanical feedback. THen I can get some sweet harmonic feedback without a ton of gain...

    A Leather guitar cover???

I had read once that the 50s guys liked it because it brought out the percussive attack of the acoustic without having to worry much about the notes of the chords. like slap bass it was part of the rockabilly rhythm. But I have never heard one in person. I'd think it would be too quiet to be...

Things you didn't know you didn't know

i play 5-string banjo and use fingerpicks. i like the dunlops since they have a bit of a flair around the edge. Can't play at all without them. However, I can't use the things on guitar. I grind the shit out of my middle fingernail during a gig. friday and saturday night and it's gone. I...

    Micing a cab live

I screw one of these on the front of almost every amp I have ever owned. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2131024&CAWELAID=107597920 I screw one of these into it: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2131023 And then clip one of these on...

    Real difference b/w MIA/MIM Fenders

if it was assembled in mexico from martian parts, it's still a MIM. Just admit that it is a MIM and price accordingly. I have a mim p-bass. It's nice, I think. It was also like $230 used. I have played alot of used mim strats and teles and I was surprised at how shitty some were. That...

need string size advice (bigsby tailpiece)

I assume that extra slinkies are 9s. I use 11s on my bigsbied guitar, but it is a full hollow body. It had 10s on it when I got it, and I thought they sounded like shit. I don't know how a bigsby would be harder on strings than anything else. I would put heavier strings on so the guitar...

    Reverb "thunder"

BTW, I pussed out and started using a lame-assed keyboard for it. I do play it with my forearm, though.

    Reverb "thunder"

Thank you. My point exactly. I think the cool thing about it was that it wasn't reproduced, but the actual sound of catastrophe. If I had a recording of thunder, that's sort of a flaccid. I used to be able to make a crazy machine gun noise with a guitar I had with a floyd, but I hate to...

    Reverb "thunder"

Hell, any keyboard player could do that! Have you heard the sound I'm talking about? I can't imagine a digital equivalent that would make people shit themselves like a 50-watt amp KERRRANG!

    Reverb "thunder"

I pulled this amp out of the shed specifically to use for this because it's "dispensable". I did invest $35 in new tubes for it. I am torn. When it goes off it is freaking scary, isn't it :D I wouldn't care if the tubes or speakers went, really. But if it bricks the thing due to...

    Reverb "thunder"

I am doing a theater gig. One song, they needed some "thunder" and I crank up the reverb on this old crap peavey classic I am using and bump it until it goes "KERANG!" What is the risk of damage? This amp is the old SS pre and tube power amp. Where is going to be the point of failure? I...
