    Here is a deal... maybe!

Glad you got it! I was beginning to worry about "our" capacity to...Nevermind. You guys can go back to sleep.

    Here is a deal... maybe!

Yeah, I guess some of us are either deaf or just not as hip as the rest. And as for sarcasm, which I really appreciate, it takes a certain skill to make it come across in writing. Sorry I missed it...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

Well, we got Bruce to say "I believe it can be made to work..." . And on the price-point issue, the only other unit there is the Behringer; the RNC is about $75 more, so for someone on a serious budget (i.e., looking for a comp around $100) there are really only those choices.

    Here is a deal... maybe!

No, that's the going price for the 3630 pretty much everywhere. But the people on this BB have been so busy trashing that comp, that I'm surprised anyone is interested anymore. There's a thread from a few weeks back where I tried to defend the unit (considering price point, features, etc), and...

Bad news for D824/D1624 owners in the US

Thanks, Skippy, for the reply. I was lookin' at it that way, too (using the stereo channels, bouncing, etc), but agree that it would definitely slow things down, even with a patch bay or two. How much is the converter (AC2496)? That was the thing holdin' me back - I was worried about only having...

    Self-Publishing

gec, Thanks for takin' the time to pass all that along! Guess I'm still pretty naive about a lot of this (sure, I had the music business course at Berklee...and read a lot of other stuff). I figured it was a bit simpler; I mean, everyone's got their own publishing these days. I'm collecting...

Bad news for D824/D1624 owners in the US

1624 and Alesis Studio 32 Skippy, I read somewhere on here that you've been using an Alesis 32 in your studio. How are you hookin' up the direct outs to the 1624? Are you using y cables? And how has the mixer worked for you? I'm interested, 'cause I've got a Studio 24 sitting here in the box (I...

Well... got a Studio Projects C1 early this week...

I've got one comin' and have been reading all the reviews with interest. (The suckers are out of stock most places right now, so that's another indication of the mic's popularity.) Will be my first large diaphram condenser, and for the money, it seemed a "no-brainer". Lookin' forward to Bruce's...

    Self-Publishing

My main thing is to publish my own stuff; I'm really not interested in putting together a diverse catalog, or trying to generate royalties for other songwriters. I'm just thinkin' along the lines of saving 50% of the royalties on my songs when I sell CD's. (That's basically all a publisher is...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

Apologies, Bruce. I didn't mean my last post to sound as insulting as it may have. Obviously, an opinion from someone with the experience you appear to have should be taken into account, especially by someone in the market for a budget compressor. My original point was to be critical and make...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

Thank you! I picked up mine after seeing a rack of 'em in a studio years ago and talking with the chief engineer about the unit. I think a lot of what we're seeing is, as you suggested, operator error...and maybe a few bad units. But it has sure become the compressor everyone loves to hate!

I'm looking for a better price..........

Music123.com has them for $538.99 a pair (about $28 more than Gidge's find at Kraft); here's the link: http://music123.com/Item/Item.asp?po=EPS6X1&uid=571A495B49CF4CF6B3BD50AE24DAC81B Forget that; Kraft has not only beat the price, but they'll ship free. Ya got me thinkin' about 'em now...But...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

More Reviews If you want to read some other views on the unit (both positive and negative), you might want to check this out. http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/Alesis/3630_Compressor_Limiter_Gate-01.html I suspect that there have been several bad units sold, hence the reports of...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

Are you sure it's the comp that's noisey? What about your source (or cables, or mixer, or, or...)? Obviously any noise in your signal chain is going to be "pumped" up by compression. There could be any number of things involved, and that's why I'm not sure all the criticism of the unit itself is...

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

Well, I didn't say buy 2 of 'em...But getting one 2nd hand, like from our friend here (or on Ebay), would probably make the price point that much more attractive.

have you used the 3630?? then please HELP ME!!

3630, etc., etc... I don't think anything, anywhere on this BB has been slammed more than the 3630, and I'm beginning to get the impression that a lot of the criticism is not based on personal experience. Yeah, sure, I've got one, and it's been a pretty dependable unit for several years now...

Cable, etc. Great! Thanks for letting me know; that's one less thing I've got to worry about (or spend more money on!). And, as an aside, thank you as well, Skippy, for all your help and ideas. I've been going through a lot of your other posts and have found them to be very helpful and...

D series extension for controller Skippy, Is there anything special about the controller extension cable (that Fostex offers for $50 - at "approximately" 16 feet...), or is it a serial or parallel cable (or similar animal). If it's some sort of "normal" computer cable, wouldn't it be cheaper to...

Of course, all of these "mods" will completely void out the warranty, I imagine...I don't get it; why weren't they thinking about that when they designed these machines?
