Yeah sorry, I've been busy with classes, which will be over in 3 weeks. So until then, I have juries to practice for and papers to write. After that I can get back to the recording. I did take the 244 apart and replace the rest of the rubber parts, so everything is operating at peak efficiency...
This is great information! I'm in Colorado, so I've considered using Aardvark myself. I've also tried to get a resource page together with as much information as possible for people looking to press a vinyl record. Would you mind sharing your experiences...
Well then. I definitely would not leave them in the regular bag, I would have the security guard do a hand-inspection. It's sensitive material and probably irreplaceable, so better safe than sorry. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of extra time. BTW what's your source?
Yeah if it's anything important, I wouldn't let it out of my sight: take it in your carry-on bag. And if you're super-paranoid (like me), you could always ask the security guard to inspect them by hand.
WAV for sure. The only time I had to give any site an MP3 copy was reverbnation.com. I've found iTunes to give me pretty much everything I need in that department. You could also do some basic editing, fades, and level adjustment as well.
But most sites want WAV files anyway, and convert...
Thanks for the feedback, people! Nothing new to report yet, I came down with a pretty bad cold the day I put all that online, plus I've been writing papers, so no time to record more yet, but I'll get to it soon.
Ohh man, 5 minutes' recording time doesn't sound too bad, except the part where...
And now a word of advice:
When taking a portastudio completely apart to change out rubber pieces, you might as well go ahead and replace all of the rubber pieces! I think it took about two weeks after I changed out the pinch roller for the idler tires to go bad, so I had to do it...
All...
Also, frequency count doubles with every octave, I'm sure that has something to do with it too.
Oh wait, that wouldn't change percentage, would it? Oh well...
I've decided it'd be a good idea to test out all the currently available type ii cassettes since I want to buy a sizable stockpile for recording myself and other people. The three that I've heard of are:
National Audio Company's BASF 799 Super Chrome
National Audio Company's BASF 771 Chrome...
It's good to know that Berklee does, they're one of the most eminent music schools in the country. I should totally go to Boston for my grad studies... :D
Before the flame war gets into full swing, I just wanna say: man, I wish MY school used tape! Nope, we're just Protools. You called RMGI directly? Did they give you any university names? Because maybe it's time to transfer...
I picked myself up two M67s, one was the modified unit that the guy was selling on ebay (and no I didn't pay his asking price, I made him what I felt was a reasonable offer...he accepted). The regular one's a bit noisy (the power cord's not grounded!) but you're right, it gives a whole hell of...
That's an important point. Just because you buy another one doesn't mean it'll work any better, unless you're buying one that's been recently refurbished, and that'll cost you. I have a Tascam 244 and when I bought it (from a thrift store), it needed to have the belts replaced. After I did...
Here's my take:
The setup for my first album was very humble indeed, and it definitely sounds that way too. And I did use a Behringer Euroback mixer for my preamp, but I think that whatever drawbacks in the sound, it's because I just didn't know enough and learned as I went along, [I]not/I]...
