I had a bass pod and got rid of it very quickly several years ago as it detracted from, rather than enhancing, my bass tone. I find going through a good pre-amp and then direct into the board gives you the best, most natural tone.
If you get earplugs I'd suggest the person who should be wearing them is your son. My son started drumming quite young and you want to protect their ears at that age. There could be many years of drumming ahead and there's a lot of ear damage that can happen over the years.
Maybe we're nuts...
I had the next best thing in my studio--a dark brown ceramic flying saucer lamp with little strangly coloured "windows" in it that flashed in unpredictable sequences and filled the room with dots of light, something like a disco ball. Unfortunately it succumbed to an overexuberant bass amp one...
An acquaintance wants to be able to lay down quick song ideas and do some overdubs (guitar and bass). It's not for production but more for composing and saving ideas. He knows nothing about recording and asked me for advice. My studio is overkill for what he wants and I'd rather see him with...
I can pretty well guarantee the drive belt has come off. I have an old A-8 and it has a similar problem. It is a bit of a pain as you need to take off the front of the machine (including anything that prevents its removal), reach in and slip the belt back on. It will have dropped low into the...
Slam, could you tell us what equipment you have in your church at present? If we know that then we can make some suggestions as to how to get the sound from your system to a tape. (I take it you're referring to an audio cassette tape.) Do you want the whole service or just the sermon?
If you...
The thing to watch when de-essing is what can end up being the reverse, an equally obnoxious lisp ("lithp") when you over-de-ess. (Over-de-ess--sounds like lederhosen...sorry.) :>)
A good one is Rubber Renue which I was able to get at a VCR repair shop (those will slowly go the way of the dodo, so maybe get lots...then again it lasts for years). Beck is right, just wet a swab and clean it once, then wipe it down with a dry swab because the cleaner will keep taking off more...
Not too much to add, but two things I can think of. First, the older Tascam boards I have tried are noisy...just early hissy circuitry and op amps. Add that up with X channels of tape hiss and you are going to get a noisy mix unfortunately. If you can get a DBX or other type of NR on your 1/2...
A few things about Ebay. I certainly look at the feedback but also look at the items sold. If someone has twenty positives, all in the last two months, and the items sold were low value ($1-2), I have very little confidence in that unless I'm buying something of similar value from them.
I've...
Great to hear Morgans have made it out to the East Coast. I've always wanted one but given my budget I settled for a Larrivee (a close second). I discovered Morgans about five or six years ago just by accident in a little music store and couldn't believe my ears. As you said, gorgeous...
I picked up a Superlux kit on Ebay about two years ago. It was so ridiculously cheap at the time I was embarrassed to get something like that. But I think I paid about $60 for a kit and I was blown away by what arrived in the mail. Four well-built, perfectly decent microphones well-packed in a...
I bought a Larivee guitar several years ago that came strung with Elixirs, just like Taylors. I was pretty skeptical about the strings to start with. But there is no question for me that the tone stayed fresher much, much longer than regular strings. I've tried Elixirs and regular strings on...
