A flat Funk Boogie -Final instrumental mix-

Without listening again right now, from my recollection it could use a vocal starting somewhere after the first 0:40 to 1:00.

A flat Funk Boogie -Final instrumental mix-

Slightly unrelated, but... I follow Avid on LinkedIn and this popped up today:

A flat Funk Boogie -Final instrumental mix-

I feel like you could up the bass 1db overall, and snare could have a bit more "bite". Full percussion section could work too to match the number of guitars I think I hear (?). Altogether a really nice composition, a vocal would be ideal on there.

"Pieces" -- like, mixed and mastered finished product songs? or individual stems? Yes, please post screen shots! Also, it might be helpful to know what genre we're dealing with?

Pro Tools on MacBook with M1, M2, M3...

My current one is M1 MAX, I haven't tried M2 but I know M3 is trippy, hence why I figured M2 is best. But I'm very happy with my M1 :) Edit: use Ventura for OS, it's very reliable, better than Sonoma up till now.

Pro Tools on MacBook with M1, M2, M3...

I don't have Pro Tools, but I can confirm that, if this is going to be a mainly music-only computer, overall the M3 is not worth the money. I'd get an M2 with a level or two of RAM upgrade (and maybe storage, depending on your music production style). Hope this helps!

    The Parting Glass

OK, I think this calls for a compromise -- I was comparing the two latest versions. While the first had vox a bit too forward, the second had them a bit "covered". So I re-automated all the vocals and the end result is now in between those two versions. Just proving, once again, that a mix is...

    The Parting Glass

OK, the difference is quite minor anyway. I'll go with that one then. Did you find it to be an improvement to the one prior to that?

    The Parting Glass

@DM60 Lowered all of the strings a bit and a couple sections of the vox.

Setting up 5.1 for audio/video work.

    Always a good thing haha!

    The Parting Glass

Final mix (I believe)! Played with levels, vox tone, and mouth noise a bit -- minor adjustments. I'm posting this on my YT, so if anyone wants a link to the video hit me up on PM! Thanks again, all, for your help!

    Down On My Luck

Do you really hear jingle bells there? That's a bit of a stretch? It's clearly tambourine -- though... see above conversation?

    Down On My Luck

Yeah, that's right. I recently got a new one myself which fit the sound I tend to like from a tambourine. I think -- as far as tambourines go -- if it's the sound you like, it's good enough.

    Down On My Luck

I like a less "precise" tambourine sound, maybe a tambourine with more jangles on it? For lack of vocabulary, think of closer to white noise than sleigh bells? But again, it isn't a problem at all for this song. Good stuff, I want to hear more :)

Setting up 5.1 for audio/video work.

I don't have experience with 5.1, so I can't help there -- but welcome, and as a (budding) video editor, your DaVinci setup is ???

    Down On My Luck

Tambourine. On second listen it fits in OK in the mix, I think it's just not quite the sound I'd personally go for with a tambourine. Anyway, it works, so don't worry about it :thumbs up:

    Down On My Luck

Overall sound/vibe is sooo good! One of the percussion elements sounds maybe a bit too prominently "jangly"? Otherwise sounds great!

    The Parting Glass

This mix is IMO infinitely better than the last, let me know where you'd go from here!
