Another 'awkward' chinese mic - and something new?

I'm intrigued by handheld condensers, and would be interested in seeing a revival -- correct me if I'm wrong but they were used more frequently in the past, right? How was handling noise on the BaiFeiLi?

Another 'awkward' chinese mic - and something new?

For the C414 I see they offer a 25mm diaphragm (as is the real thing) -- but also a 34mm diaphragm? What's up with that? Also I find it funny that their "store name" is "SEENINSEER Audio Store" lmao

Anothew Jacob Collier video - improvisation with an orchestra

I've had that video open in a browser tab since it came out (I watch everything that he puts online) but have not gotten to listen yet. Crazy how he still has that youthful energy / approach to artistry now that he's 30 -- ok that's not "old" but I don't know anyone else who aged quite like that.

I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

Some also say that big companies charge too much for actual worth. OK so the ripoffs are too cheap, but I'm sure there's a balance somewhere -- and Neumann isn't being fair in their own way.

You could use a clipper to get rid of spikes from clicks and pops, although I'd recommend using REAPER over Audacity if you want to go down that road.

MP3 at 320kbps is sufficient and convenient. Kudos, by the way. Some folks are reluctant to share for some reason (in my experience anyway).

Lucky for the Chinese, Neumann and whoever writes copyright law don't have gain on their brain.

I want one (but I'm in Canada).

I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

@rob aylestone so you tested the "fake" against your own "real thing" but how much variation is there between authentic TLM-103s? Reason I ask is that in other types of gear -- I'm mainly thinking outboard -- there is significant enough variation for, say, Universal Audio to find it worthwhile...

I've been struggling with mouth noises and wondering if there's a solution...?

I've been desperate about this when I started recording my voice. I tried a lot of different techniques and none really seemed to help until I read somewhere that coating one's mouth in oil (olive, avocado) works... I gave it a try; it's not what I'd call pleasant but it got rid of 80-90% of the...

I hope it's ok that I make this point

This made me think about Billy Joel, who reportedly has an intense dislike for songwriting. The man is a songwriting GENIUS. No AI is going to write "Still Rock 'n' Roll To Me"! You can only make high art through a struggle. When someone says that "AI can help in [their pick] department" and...

    Harrison Mixbus initial impression

So over the holidays the temptation was too strong and I had to give in: I bit the bullet on Harrison Mixbus 10. Been poking around with project setup (see this thread for more details) and the process is pretty smooth if you're both well-versed with typical DAW workflows AND aware of...

    Recording... with limitations

Yes, that's what I was referring to, but I am curious whether there was more to it than that? EDIT: @rob aylestone covered some of this just as I posted. I don't have quite the same limitations, because I can mix in a DAW, but to build a production with a coherent "feel" I want to prioritize...

    Recording... with limitations

I did consider doing it in mono but it is kind of at the base of it all -- no guitars or bass in the arrangement so it's the main feature instrument. How would the early 4-track bands have done it? is my question. Maybe they didn't do this instrumentation but the concept should remain the same...

    Recording... with limitations

Thank you @R D Smith, @Papanate, and @Dusty Ol' Bones! I should clarify though. The video is not the main concern; it's how to prioritize instruments for the "main" take which can then be augmented with additional "production". Also, keep in mind that I will be tracking acoustic piano as part...

    Recording... with limitations

Greetings all! A group/band that I lead (to put it simply) is thinking of doing a proper recording of an acoustic folk-ish song later this spring -- around April probably. We are hoping to make a studio video at the same time and capture as much of it live as possible. Problem is, we have no...

    Signature Guitar Strings?

That's for all 6 strings? I was just gifted a mandolin -- pics upcoming -- and replaced the strings. 8 strings, mid-quality range, C$12 total I think. Good enough for the mandolin which isn't anything crazy itself. But considering these are the exact strings I play on violin, the price is a...
