    PC Hard Drive crashed

correct. There are two choices during install, one is to install it with its software license ( which would be steinburg license) or onto a e-license dongle. Either way, it adds the license to the account at installation.

    Confused about audio setup (mic+piano/keyboard)

At2020 is a good mic, but I would get a different interface because there are a few really good ones in that price range. One is the SSL2 and the other is UAD volt. But I would recommend the SSL2 over the volt in your case because of the plugins/software package that is focused around keyboard...

    Transformerless SM58

Its common for a lot of mass produced corporate stuff. The only problem with shure mics are design based. The SM7 for it to be correct, it needs a dynamic mic step up transformer added. (Which was the common mod way before those cloudlifters were invented. Which the cloudlifter adds noise and...

    Transformerless SM58

So basically what you did is turn it into a PG58 which is the same thing without a mic transformer. Nothing is going to happen when you put a dynamic mic on phantom. Because the circuit is across pins 2&3 on a dynamic mic and pin 1 is just shielding. Its going to be the same on stage as a PG58...

can anyone recommend 24 track hard disc recorder that interacts with 1995 analog mackie board

one would think you could configure a hd24 to arm tracks individually like the tascam. But if I was setting up one of these tape era boards I would get enough recording i/o so I wouldn't have to patch and re-patch. That gets old quickly.

can anyone recommend 24 track hard disc recorder that interacts with 1995 analog mackie board

Well you use a tascam DA-6400 with two 16 ch AES cards with nice converters with AES i/o unless you want to go dante and remote patching by a tablet becomes a possibility and opens the door up to a wider good but low priced interfacing like the $200 danteAVIO 2Ch adapters Edit: The correct...

    Is this a germanium transistor?

Its a FET 2SK24 is the part number. datasheet : https://www.myon98.net/memo/datasheet/2sk24.1971.pdf Electret mics either have a common source amp built into them or external like this one.

Can anyone help me with volume automation options?

Look ahead limiter plugin then afterwards a compressor plugin. Since you didn't track it with a limiter going in, which is the correct thing to do instead of a compressor when recording into an ADC. That is one of the ways the interfaces are built wrong, but that is a different subject.

Alright what do ns10s sound like?

Guitar amps are a different animal than my amp. Bryston amps are good amps and work great too. I didn't want to mention slew rate if this audience wasn't technical, but the slew rate of my OTL amp is about 2KV/uS. I'm used to working with monitors, but I was thinking about making an OTL...

Thump my kick, buzzing sound hissing issue

connect the drum station to a channel by a DI box, then use an insert cable to connect the 3630 into that channel. I find that I have to run a DI box from these modules from any output it uses.

    Recording Contrabass

I've done the lavalier mic on the bridge, but differently than the video. I stick the mic in one of the bridge holes with the mic pointing towards the neck. This worked so well for recording, the musician bought another bridge piece and paid me to permanently install one on that bridge. The...

    Low level audio

you must mean -20dbfs. Since A/D converters are not constant in regards to its signal to noise, bringing in a signal that low will have a lower signal to noise ratio. A lot of people settled on -10 dbfs as a recording level for these circuits that were really not well design to record audio.

Alright what do ns10s sound like?

I should be more precise to tell you, that I'm running a tube otl amp. Which I find is more responsive than a solid state amp. Even though its only 50W it sounds like I hooked it up to a 500W solid state amp. I've tried a lot of different amp combinations and I'm impressed how well these 15W...

Stereo bus peaking louder than track

looks like because you have the buss gain at +6 instead of unity.

Alright what do ns10s sound like?

You see I altered the purpose of mine. I built the tube amp a special way so it would make what is wrong stick out more. Guitar amps are not really program audio tube amps. Obviously you never heard any clean high end tube amps for program audio. An observation I recently discovered is my...

TASCAM 388 with (OLD) LEXICON 200 (transformer balanced XLR) ???

actually there are several interconnect standards. The question on if it would need a 2K would be if it was needed for the correct gain structure. Putting a resistor on the + input to a transformer converts the input to be that impedance unbalanced. This is normal signal transformer theory. The...

TASCAM 388 with (OLD) LEXICON 200 (transformer balanced XLR) ???

yes, because the gear convention for effects were 1/4 inch or rca unbalanced when the 388 was made. The question becomes if the OP can use pin 2&3 of the lexi by itself or has to convert the xlr input to be unbalanced with a 2K resistor in series on pin2.

Noticing many microphones are 600 ohms, that mean anything?

Its has always been govern by Xc of the coupling capacitor. This is first year design school stuff.

    Are PreAmps a marketing myth?

I bet its because they only show it to techs and not put it in the manual. 88R. notice the screwdriver adjustments next to "SF Mute"

Noticing many microphones are 600 ohms, that mean anything?

Transformer to transformer coupling still fallows power matching rules. Its when it goes into a capacitor coupled input frequency response starts going awry a little because the transformer has resistance lower than the termination resistance on the other side of the coupling caps.
