Budget Home Studio Solutions: Share Your Tips and Tricks

It comes down to your situation and goals. Are you recording just your self in your bedroom, no more than two tracks at a time or do you want to track your five piece band in warehouse or what? That drives the minimums on the gear part of the equation. Room treatment is an entirely different...

    A Tribute To A Friend

My best friend passed away yesterday. A gentleman named Dave Agnew. A professional musician and my friend. I've logged more time in front of an audience and a microphone with this gentleman than any other human. When we first got together, he was involved with a group at the VA comprised of...

    Ear for guitar

In a general sense, I can spot Strat style guitars (position 2 & 4 type quack) and probable humbuckers but that's about it.

    Still alive and well

That hits nice and hard. Love it

    Going DAW-less

I track to an Alesis HD24. Just hit record and forget about it. I still transfer it to a computer for fuckery.

    electric guitar pickups

Tele's are plenty spanky but can growl too. That comes down to the amp. In the Humbucker world, in my experience, BurstBuckers are bright.

How would you mix three drum mics in the stereo field, bass drum, snare, and overhead?

Centered for sure. I do it all the time

    Recording hand percussion

Especially things like tambourine, the mic is very far away, like in the next room. I sit at the console with the door to the drum room open and I turn on the drum overheads. It tames the transients

Alesis HD24 and BRC for sale...

Two things. I clock my BRC with a GenX6 so I can operate at 44.1. Second is I have to "prime" a song on the HD24 by arming tracks and recording a second or two FROM THE HD24. After that I can rewind and start recording

Theater Board Output Level to Zoom - Usually No Headroom - Any Fix?

Last show I tracked I patched into FOH Midas console via USB. I had to download the drivers but was able to multitrack directly to Reaper.

    Power Pop

Reminds me of the style of band I was in about 18 years ago. Similar power pop kinda sound. I actually really like this. It has some pretty good moments. I think it could stand some refining. Over all pretty cool.

Thanks. Actually yes. It.s all under construction.

Some Original Material For A Change

I appreciate the feedback my friends. This really started with a instrumental jam with no thought of developing it. It just sorta "happened". I have a handful of tunes that all "happened" that way. I'm not a fan of canned drums in any fashion. The whole idea is to catch people actually playing...

Some Original Material For A Change

Yes. we have phones but I try to "stay outta the way" when tracking now. I want everyone having fun and thinking about jamming rather than thinking about recording. Sometimes you get lightning in a bottle. Sometimes you don't.

Headphone or speaker as a microphone

I made this sub kick. Along with a standard mic on kick it's not bad.

Some Original Material For A Change

I went thru it track by track. What I THINK is mostly the distortion is the bass track. Everything was miked and the bass amp had a fair amount of fur on it. Add that to the guitar and it can get fuzzy

Drums are a set of Ludwigs. I'm sitting next to him with a Blues Jr with a 441 in front of it.
