Toms I've great success with AKG C-3000's. Cheaper than a 57 used and with the right preamp, phenomenal.

I have a MD441 and about a dozen 57's, some 545's, and a couple of 58's. A couple of EV PL-80's. I even pulled a transformer out of one of the 57's that I've used on guitar cabs and snare. That's neither here nor there. 57's & 58's are around for a reason. They work and they work very well...

Lots a of RAM and decent storage. Stay backed up on stuff you'd hate to lose. I need a new computer when my current computer won't boot.

In a word, no. Only if for some inexplicable reason they wer 180 out of phase, I'd flip it, but in my experience, the mic and DI were always close enough
