Help a budding recording engineer (my 13yo daughter) pick monitors under $100!

She ended up going with some of the new Yamaha HS3’s. The few reviews out there have been positive. Still pretty small w 3.5” drivers, but she wanted small, white, and cute! She got a good amount of birthday money and I got them for under $200. They’ll work great for her purposes. She just...

Help a budding recording engineer (my 13yo daughter) pick monitors under $100!

3.5” would be nice for her tiny desk. Cheaper too. But does anyone make 3.5” monitors that sound ok? I may need to step up a size.

Fake Audix D6 - any good for bass guitar?

Yeah, the plastic v metal is all I picked up in the video. I figured that might be hard to tell from a photo. I have a real one inside my kick for the attack, and an at4047 outside for the body. Very happy with the combination. I did just take my D112 off of my 16” floor tom. It’s just a lot of...

    ADK love?

Exactly. A complete rehaul. I think they started their company making much cheaper mics, and they like to bring them up to current specs for their customers. I’m in under $1k for a Z-67 with a power supply, no complaints!

Help a budding recording engineer (my 13yo daughter) pick monitors under $100!

I’d definitely be willing to secretly pitch in some cash. She’s been saving up and I want her to have the satisfaction of being able to buy her own. My KH120’s are staying w me! I love those!

    ADK love?

I see what you’re saying. But if you can find one of their older cheaper TT mics that have the right body (about $350), and send it in to ADK, they will make it a brand new Z-mod (a $4k mic) for a fraction of the cost. Same exact internals. Only difference is the body has a sticker saying which...

    ADK love?

I recently (8 months ago) picked up an ADK Area 51 TT tube mic because I read that the Jason Livermore used one on Tim McIlrath’s (Rise Against) vocals. I had ADK do the Z-67 mod (Z-67 has also been used a lot by Jason and Tim). The mod (changed out the circuit board, transformer, capsule...

Fake Audix D6 - any good for bass guitar?

I didn’t realize the D6 was one of those mics that’s gets counterfeited. What do you look for to know it’s a fake one if you’re just looking at pictures? Thanks for the video!

Oh noes mic dropped in water

Definitely don’t plug it in until you’re certain it’s totally dry inside. It would probably help to take it apart the best you can and keep it somewhere warm until it dries. If it does work after, it probably will have a warped diaphragm…but it might be a cool effect! If it doesn’t work, I...

Help a budding recording engineer (my 13yo daughter) pick monitors under $100!

I got my daughter a Focusrite solo studio pack for her 13th birthday. She loves it and is making all sorts of fun stuff! Now she wants monitors but only has $100…so she can’t get Neumann’s like her dad. I’m looking at a bunch of options with 3.5” drivers for her small desk, but I don’t know...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Thank you for the suggestion, the Behringer works perfectly! (see post above, I don’t know how to put multiple quotes in one post) And now I know the term “class compliant”. So much learning going on here! Thanks everyone!

A little follow up… We’re in business, thanks everyone! It works great. You just added 10 years to my life. AND A QUICK VOICE RECOGNITION TEST…

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Thanks Dave, I really appreciate your time and effort! And I hope you enjoyed your son’s visit. France, that’s way too far!

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Any luck with the Behringer and W7 laptop? I’m tempted to try a headset and it was a great suggestion, but I can see myself getting tired of wear it for 10-13 hours per day. I’m going to try the interface with an SM81 on a desktop gooseneck stand. I’m hopeful this not only eliminates my volume...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Great to know! I hope it will work with windows 7 too. The Audix connects directly to the pc via USB. The pc automatically recognizes it. My dictation software lets me select it as the audio source, but will not adjust the volume. The handheld dictaphone (came with the dictation software) still...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Happy New Year everyone! Looking into the UMC22, it states it needs the ASIO4All driver installed. Does anyone know if this is standard/preinstalled on Windows 7 & 10. I can’t find this information online. Thanks!

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Yes, several docs use these computers for a week at a time. We each have separate login credentials, so it’s possible to have different settings, but I would have to get IT to make the changes on each computer I work at which could take months. But they still can’t install any nonnative software...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

That’s a great option, thanks! I assumed all interfaces needed you to install drivers. I’ll take a look. I could use a nice XLR mic that might help with voice recognition. I was also looking at the sE Neom. Looks like it has mic gain right on the front. Supposedly plug n play w no need to...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

Yeah, the audio goes directly into our dictation software. We edit in the software. The software is part of the problem. It integrates with its own hand held dictaphone and adjusts the volume automatically. But it won’t adjust the volume of any other microphone. I used the proprietary dictaphone...

Adding gain to a USB mic? Audix USB12

They’re work (hospital) computers and we can’t change them or access them in any way for cyber security and privacy reasons. Some run Windows 7, other Windows 10. I could probably get IT to update windows drivers, but we can’t install other software. Cost isn’t an issue. I just need something...
