    Tascam MS-16 Isolation Cover

I have a small studio and notice when recording with the Tascam MS-16, the motor noise can be picked up a little in my sensitive condenser mics. It’s subtle but it made me think that I could build an isolation cover for the top of the unit, which is where I predominately hear the noise, that...

    Tascam 244 Story…

Upon reading the service manual section on this, it looks like it may be a bit above my ”pay grade”! ? I’m sure it’s likely easier than it reads but I’m not sure I have the gear or the experience to safely trudge my way through it. Hopefully someday I can find someone that specializes, locally...

    Tascam 244 Story…

Well, I got it back, cleaned it up best I could considering it’s questionable care history and it works pretty good! Cleaned the heads and I plan to demag them tomorrow, not sure if it needs any other ”tune up”. I have the service manual and plan to see if I can adjust the recording/playback...

Season’s Greetings & Happy New Year

I had a guy in Oklahoma build me the desk our of 3/4" pine ply, I painted and did the formica desktops, stained and poly'd the end caps (which no one really sees). He made it custom for my M-520 with plenty of rack space and storage. It works great, and I love having the full length padded arm...

Happy new year to you all! Let's hope...

    Tascam 244 Story…

I agree with you, without first hand visual or video, I can’t verify what he said either. He knows his stuff pretty well but this is a new unit to him and a little older than he has worked on for me in the past. He mainly focuses on my synthesizer repairs. He says it‘s working now, all...

    Tascam 244 Story…

UPDATE: My tech says it’s now working just fine. He thinks while cleaning and oiling that a smidge got on the capstan roller and that’s why. After a thorough cleaning, it’s working perfectly! I can’t wait to get it back and use it!

    Tascam 244 Story…

My friend measured the belt that came with the ebay set that appears to be slipping off when the motor is running. “The belt is 6mm wide, 1mm thick, and about 146mm long pressed flat on a table” He said he’d try to get a video of it soon. I’ll post when he does.

    Movie on Vocal Technique

I want to see this movie now, I love both Peter O’Toole (My Favorite Year is one of my favorites) and Jodie Foster. Looking forward to it. Peter O’Toole truly is in a class by himself, maybe only next to Sir Richard Harris and Sir Richard Burton in ability to be a highly functioning drunk...

not sure if that was the belt I got with the “244” kit i got from Ebay or one he just tried for testing purposes after the other one worked off. I’ll find out and see if he can get some measurements and a video.

    Tascam 244 Story…

So, my friend working on my 244 said he thinks it’s something to do with the capstan belt slipping off. He tried several belts and they all eventually slip off. Alignment issue? How to fix?

    Tascam 244 Story…

I picked up one of these about 2 years ago, bought the new rubber for it and then put it in climate-controlled storage. I just took it to my good friend Zak who works on a lot of my gear. He’s got the new rubber on and it’s all working except when he records something it appears to record...

First song I’ve written, thanks to a workshop

Thanks, I look forward to working on it. I think I’ve already identified one issue is that I wrote it in the wrong key to really utilize my voice and I’ve already transposed it to another key. Plus I want to record to a click or rhythm track to keep on tempo better. Plus the bridge needs work. I...

First song I’ve written, thanks to a workshop

I appreciate that. I’m 52, I have no misconceptions about what I’m really doing other than enjoying myself. That said, if a bunch falls out of me and I can produce them for my family and friends to hear, something to leave behind, then I will. If not, I’m going to keep enjoying playing, writing...

First song I’ve written, thanks to a workshop

Thank you guys! I respect so many of you here and have been very sheepish about sharing this with anyone other than family and friends. This is my first public post about it. I have a few more in the works but I wouldn’t say the seal is broken just yet. Songwriting is odd. It’s hard and easy at...
