    STICKY PALMS?

Poly finish on a guitar neck seems to "grab" your hand more than laquar. That being said ANY gloss finish on the back of the neck will do that. My '66 stratocaster had all the finish worn off the back of the neck and it needed a refret. I took it to one of the best to have that done. He lightly...

    RWRP middle pickup question

I can say with absolute authority that it sounds different to me. On top of the #2 and #4 positions sounding different, when playing with high gain and holding a sustained note, switching the pickup selector back and forth from neck to bridge pickup sounds like shit. Here is an example of what...

It sounds different to my ears. That's all. To others there may be no difference at all

    DREAM STRAT

Get a neck from all parts. Theyvare licensed and stamped fender. They are a littlebover $100. I used one of their necks on a strat build. Great necks!

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

The pickups are PAF clones by Duburno (Mr fabulous on reverb.com) They are really good. Sounds exactly like those old paf vintage gibson humbuckers. But honestly, I got used to Seymour Duncan 59's that my LP studio was loaded with. They are a little more mid scooped and compressed than these PAF...

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

Well, I was looking for a les paul traditional on reverb. So yeah, I pretty much had to go by pictures. Had to make sure it was a real les paul traditional. Had to make sure the serial number was right for what I was looking for. Had to decide if it was in as good a shape as I wanted. Had to...

    RWRP middle pickup question

That's why I don't like the reverse would. Positions 2 and 4 don't sound as good with the RWMP. That's my opinion and has been my experience. I've logged a lot of hours with reverse wound middle and traditional wound middle both. I hear a difference in positions 2 and 4.

    RWRP middle pickup question

I don't care for reverse wound middle pup. I'm old school. I like all 3 wound the same. In in-between switch positions have much better tone. If I want hum canceling I'll play a humbucker guitar.

    RWRP middle pickup question

I have never liked the reverse wound middle pickup on fender strat pickuo sets sets. The tone is not as good as it is with traditionally woud sets, warts (60 cycle hum) and all. If 60 cycle hum is unbearable but you want the best tone....get a noise gate instead of a RWMP

    Up for a new amp...

You have to decide if you are an amp collector/investor or a working musician. Example: I bought a 1966 fender strat in 1976 for $150. I was laughed at by my musician friends at the time. (It was a "post CBS" and would nevet be worth squat) Anyway, the trembar broke off in the block..I replaced...

They will break one off in you here too. I just lucked out. The tech who I use was in a band with me years ago. He ran a lamp factory for years and was always an ace at fixing electronics. He married a wealth lady and is retired. He dosen't really care about making any money...he just loves...

I can't crank my pro reverb up to that point either. Get you a good overdrive pedal. I recommend a boss blues driver. That's what I'm using and I love it.

Owning and using vintage fender tube amps is hard if you don't have a good tube amp tech.

    Up for a new amp...

First off install a grounded plug on the power supply cord. A lot of the time a noisy amp is due to a bad cap or grounding issue. Could be a tube. After the amp warms up take a pencil and lightly tap each tube. If the tapping is amplified the tube is microphonic and needs replacing. Microphonic...

Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

Exactly. Look at a gibson les paul. The lines are large at the back, gets smaller coming into the cutaway, goes up the neck and blossoms out through the headstock (subtlety) The pointy type headstock works on a flying V....not so much on a les paul. Heritage is batting a thousand all the way up...

Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

Well, let me re-phrase... Gibson and Fender trademarked the coolest headstock design. I'm not just talking about strats and les pauls. I'm talking about all their headstocks. Strat, tele, les paul, explorer. Firebird flying v. Those 2 companies have trademarked and own those headstock designs...
