    Eq confused

The attached image shows a shelf used to cut low frequencies, and another shelf used to boost higher frequencies. The gain setting determines the level of the flat part and the Q setting, if you have one, will determine the steepness of the slope. You can effectively use a shelf as a high pass...

    Ram upgrade 32 to 64gb

+1 to this. If I had a £ for every time people just went off and upgraded their ram regardless here I'd be retired but what DM says is true. If you run a heavy session and your ram doesn't get over 20% (or any % well clear of 100), more ram won't help. It'd be upgrading your 10 litre container...

Gain staging ok but main bus clipping??

Hi, It sounds to me like what you're describing is perfectly normal. You can be as careful as you want on a per track basis but the master is the sum of the parts so, eventually, the more tracks you add the closer you're going to get to clipping it. (Assuming some degree of frequency overlap in...

Hi Miguel, Welcome to HR. I love seeing old gear restored and maintained and, ideally, used. Plenty of other people here do too so welcome on in. (y)

    Ram upgrade 32 to 64gb

With memory and CPU usage you can just open Task Manager and look at the performance tab and know for sure if you'll benefit from an upgrade or not. Fire up the heaviest workflow you've got then watch TaskManager as it's running. If the memory in-use % is well below 100, then you won't benefit...

    Mix This!

It’s fun to share your mixes and get other members’ feedback, but did you know we have an area for sharing your raw tracks? Why not give it a go and see where someone else takes your project?

Is Movavi good for beginners in audio and video editing?

Hi, I'd never heard of Movavi before but it looks like the free version puts watermarks in your exports so, basically, it's not free. I'd recommend looking at Da Vinci Resolve for video. It is free and without watermarks, although there is a paid version with additional features, but the free...

    Nothing

Yeah, seems most people are just confused now, which is why I suggested more communication in the first reply. Perhaps Odi just intended to share this music for us to listen to without really wanting feedback or discussion. If that's the case I can move them over to the show off forum.

    Headphone Output Impedance and Mastering

Interesting info here. I'll never knock anyone for doing some research and thinking something through, and I have, on occasion, mixed on headphones where the source material is repetitive or very familiar, but people often forget one fundamental issue and that's that your left ear hears the...

They have downloads for MacOS, Windows, and Linux! I don't think that was the case last I checked there.

    Welcome to Mix This!

This is the place to submit your multitrack sessions for our community members to take a crack at. That may be because you'd like to hear someone else's take for inspiration or direction, or simply because you'd like to give others the opportunity to get some practice. This is not the place to...

    Free and/or open source software : 2024

I've created this new sticky thread for free and/or open source software recommendations, as our old thread was started in 2009 and a lot of the links and recommendations are now long dead. I'll get the ball rolling with Name - Audacity. Function - Audio recording and editing. URL -...

    Getting started.

Member RedStone has taken the time to detail a number of things they learned when starting out in HomeRecording. Whether you’re a beginner or not, some of this info may be very useful to you. On the other hand, do you have your own experiences and observations to contribute? Maybe you disagree...

Adding USB hub to new PC

Your approach seems sound to me. Interface direct to motherboard ports is good. It shouldn't matter but no harm being safe. Doesn't sound like any of the rest should need power so I agree with Ujn. Unless you plan to use external drives or other devices that you know need power, a passve hub...

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

I'm not either but that's the way to do it ^. Learn on things you don't mind wrecking. I did the same learning to neck reset - I think I mentioned it recently. I bought an FG-180 in really bad shape for very cheap. If I'd made a mess of it, well, nothing was really lost. Thankfully, though, I...

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

Lovely stuff. Mine was just a one-job affair so not ideal scale or materials and, as you can see, I had to use little shims here and there to get things right, but the job got done and that's the main thing. I had the same experience with spool clamps. How much??...Where are my hole cutters?
