    Who would you order from?

I'm going to order today a pair of M-Audio BX5 Studiophile monitors. Everywhere I look online the price is the same. The local guys even have the same price. Normally I'd buy locally in a heartbeat but the last time I called them they didn't seem to care about selling to me and since it's a...

    Anyone using cakewalks VST-DX wrapper?

I'd like to be able to use VST, it seems that there's tons more shareware for VST available, but I've heard Cakewalk's wrapper is not that good. Any other comments?

    Plug-ins: VST vs DX.

are VST of higher sound quality? Does one format have better selection? Does one use less resource? What does a wrapper do? My software does not support VST, but I could use VST plugs with a VST-DX wrapper right?

    effects monitoring

O.K, from what I've learned so far, the guitar should be recorded clean and F/X add during mixing. Fine. The guitarist needs to hear his F/X while he's playing to get the feel right. Fine. Rig up an F/X loop on an aux bus, no problem. O.K, now here's the problem, the F/X I'm adding will be...

    My guitar sounds suck!

OK, so I recorded the guitar dry, and now I need to add the effects. I'm using Home Studio XL 2004, aka Sonar lite, and with what's available I'm not happy with the sounds I'm getting. I've combined amp sim with the spectra f/x but it all sounds cheap and cheesy, not enough sustain, if I get...

First the soundcard didn't work.......... Got it fixed, no charge, Thanks M-Audio :D: Where's that noise coming from........... Overloaded PCI Bus, switch to a different machine 'til we can get the new one reconfigured...Beauty no more noise :) Let's learn the mixer...

    decrease PCI bus utilization

Okay so I think our new computer is overkill, starting with raid. It looks as if raid may be the major culprit with our noise problem. Supposedly I need to decrease the PCI Bus Utilization, anyone know how I would do this? Thanks. Dan

    cupboard full of bones

This is a little MIDI Ditty that I wrote as a project for an intro to music tech course at the local community college. I'm not a musician, I'm a drummer so it's not too creative. It's a little cheeseball based on an Em pentatonic scale, but Becca (VTMosaic) sings purty on it. link no longer...

    Weeping Shadows

This is my first attempt at mixing. Be kind. This is just for practice, everything needs to be retracked. We haven't bought the monitors yet so this was all done in cans. And the drums were recorded with three crappy mics. Give it a listen, tell me what you think. Thanks. Weeping Shadows

Delta 1010, Windows XP, IRQ Issues

We've been having problems with Pops and Clicks and believe it my be because the IRQ setting for the delta 1010 is too high. Supposedly this is a common issue with XP. We've ( my wife actually) has disabled some devices with lower IRQ settings and now i'm about to open the pc up and try moving...

    tracking down noise

I'm using Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 XL a M-Audio Delta 1010, My Motherboard is Shuttle AN50r with nForce3 150 chipset, The CPU is AMD Athlon 64 3000+, and a ton of RAM and because I'm wondering about conflicts, the video card is GeForce FX5200. When tracking or just playing through the system...

What do phasing problems sound like?

We're having problems with my drum tracks. I'm hearing a cyclical pattern where the sound fades in and out as if an oscillator had been applied. Could this be phasing? If so I should be able to correct it by moving the mics around, right?

Anyone concerned about posting unregistered material?

Do you people generally make a habit of registering a song with the L.O.C. before posting it? Supposedly once it's been recorded it's covered even though it's not registered, but how can you protect yourself? Not that anyone would wanna steal my stuff, just curious about those who are good...

How many guitar tracks are too many?

I'm just wondering if our guitarist is getting a bit overindulgent, he's up to ten so far and expects me to be able to have each voice defined in the mix. I'm getting close, but damn it's busy in there. I'd like to cut him back to about six or less. I know it's hard to respond without hearing...

All this talk about samples and triggering is really starting to bother me.

Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but when did it become wrong for a drum kit to sound like a drum kit? It seems to me samples are a shortcut instead of working at it to get a good sound, kinda like eating frozen dinners when you don't feel like cooking. I was gonna start a rant but I gotta take...

How many guitarists know dots, Who's frustrated with those that don't?

Does it seem to make a diff to anyone if the musicians you play/wirte/record with can read? Or maybe it's the lack of theory that should have been learned when learning the dots.

    m-Audio Customer Service

I meant to post this a while ago but slacked. I purchased on E-Bay a delta 1010, supposedly like new, never used, mint condition ETC. I hooked the thing up and spent a couple days trouble shooting before realizing I'd been screwed and the breakout box was DOA. I called M-Audio and they said...

    NOISE: Strat vs Carvin V220t

Our guitarist is recording his strat, and we're getting noise which we've determined is being produced by the guitar, just minimal static, but enough to be a problem. Would we get better results with the Carvin? I'm just a drummer so I don't know much about guitars but would the humbuckers in...

    Yamaha MG 12/4 routing

Okay, I know there's a way to do this or I wouldn't have got it, I've had it explained to me but waited to long to put it into practice. I'd like to record 8 tracks simultaneously. I'm using a delta 10/10, a DMP3 and a Yamaha MG 12/4. I know it deals with using the auxes and panning hard L&R...
