Bad Insert Jack, Dead Channel on Preamp

Often times, opening it up, cleaning the contacts and slightly bending the weak contact brings it back to life.

Late 60s British guitar group rip off - "Raising Hell"

Very 60s. Very jangly. Could to my ears use a bit more bottom end and maybe dial back some of the vocal processing? Seems like everything is sitting in that mid / high mid spectrum. But, it’s still cool.

To Plek, or Not to Plek? That Is My Question

AI is busy working on that as we speak. They’ve also got a “plectrum” in the works that will give you that perfect Nirvana tone….. but that’s a ways off. :D

To Plek, or Not to Plek? That Is My Question

A guitar needs to be pleked after every single use. And yes I’m being a wiseass

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

For me, the only time I’ll use two mics is when I want to capture the room sound. A 57 on the speaker and a condenser a few feet away….blend to taste

2002 Alesis Nanoverb and Alesis Nanocompressor still good in 2025?

As to the 16 bit aspect I wouldn’t worry. If it sounds good it’s good. And remember, CDs are 16 bit. They sound good :D

This is a 2 year old video, but ironically it showed up in my YouTube feed at the perfect time time for your thread. :D

Just curious as to why still analog??

I look back in amazement at the pre cellphone/internet era. Somehow you could put together players to do a session in the studio in a half an hour! And that included drive time. The most amazing aspect was that you had the telephone numbers stored in your head. Yes, the ‘cloud’ between...

Just curious as to why still analog??

Not to mention robbing us of basic skills. Since the invasion of computers and smart phones, my handwriting has gone to shit. Oh, and with the ‘increased’ communication aspect of technology there’s less real live communication going on. How many times has someone you know texted you, you call...

Just curious as to why still analog??

As much as I’m a fan of Analog, I’d never get one of these 2 inch machines. Just not practical unless you’re a rockstar, or running a commercial studio. For hobbyist purposes, my MSR16 is just fine and dandy.

I like magic. Could use some more.

Just curious as to why still analog??

But would they be able financially to chase the hardware that 2inch tape runs on? Doubtful

Guitar 'truths" that you believe are myths

But are they the coolest because of the familiarity aspect, or because aesthetics?? That is the question. Just playing devils advocate. I have no definitive answer. :D

    Interesting channel for tape geeks

Saw that. Lot of valid points. As to the longevity aspect I’ve lost more files due to digital storage than I have with analog formats.

    Stereo versus mono

Some years back, ( about 10 years) I saw a video on the tube that was pretty impressive. The guy was a musician, a tinkerer, and an experimenter. He multi tracked his band, and rather than doing a standard two speaker mix, he ran each instrument into its own speaker with separate power amps...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

The elephant in the room? To the original poster…. @Simplex09 Are you a new and novice player? There’s a huge difference between Marty’s tutorial video and your playing. Yours is choppy, out of time, uncertain and generally sounds bad. And I’m not talking about the tone….. but that’s bad...

Who still mixes with a console?

1st 8 channels are dedicated to drums. 9 to 16 is every thing else. Last 4 channels are for stereo effects returns or 4 mono returns. And with my A&H ice16 I can go to tape and daw at the same time. Edit: pic is upside down sorry. Not sure how to fix it.
