I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

Well, they came in. These are the large diaphragm mics and cost a bit more. With customs tax etc it worked out to 30 bucks a mic. I got two. Haven’t tried em out yet but the build quality is nice. Still, two mics for 60 bucks is still a steal. Since the tariffs I think they jumped up to 59 each.

New Original Tune: To My Friends (Soft Punk)

Once, just once, my last band got some airplay on the radio. We did an interview and got two songs played. But it was only a college station. The only reason we pulled that off was because the drummer knew the host and she was a fan of the band. But outside of circumstances like that, how...

New Original Tune: To My Friends (Soft Punk)

Don’t fix guitars with eq (Imho). It’s good to have different guitar sounds rather than make them sound similar. It’s an easy fix with just bringing up level a tad.

New Original Tune: To My Friends (Soft Punk)

Hard to say (for me) I’ve only listened on my iPhone and wired EarPods. But compared to other music I stream through them your low end is in the same ballpark. If anything I’d check your balance. It’s so minor, I didn’t even want to bring it up. But the right side guitar (s) are a smidge...

New Original Tune: To My Friends (Soft Punk)

Excellent. Whatever you did to the vocals makes them sit better and it’s easier to hear the backgrounds now. Winner! Time for a release party! :)

New Original Tune: To My Friends (Soft Punk)

Sounds fine to me. If anything, a bit more level on the vocal with a little less effect. I like it. It’s catchy, has this ‘I've heard this somewhere before’ vibe.

Thoughts on vocal tuning/heavy editing and an interesting analogy (I think)

My overall takeaways from this thread are a few simple points. 1) pitch is a learned skill. Skills take practice to develop. 2) pitch correction technology makes it too easy to fix a performance in the mixing/editing of the song 3) this creates a situation where a shitty or sub par vocalist...

volume from console or output of limiter?

You want the desk at unity gain. I wouldn’t worry too much about the meters peaking at times. It’s not like digital when you absolutely have to keep it from going into the red. If it sounds good it is good

Haha! It does take some of the precision out of the picture.

I bought a crazily cheap 'Neumann' TLM103 and it's really decent!

There’s only one 26mm left. I wonder if the larger diaphragm is any good. They certainly are more $ Last I looked about 34 bucks.

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Simple answer to the second question. Don’t ever take your Girlfriend golfing. :D

High end recording gear vs high end audiophile listening gear.

Bringing up just Neve…… the purpose of using that board is that it is part of ‘creating’ the sound. It is just one factor of the recoding process. The board colors the sound. So you wouldn’t want a Neve involved in the playback of the original recording as you’d be adding another element of...

Which do you prefer? Resistor or no resistor? I like the first the best

    Treble bleed circuit

The resistor inline does make a huge difference.
