laptop sound cards(headphone jack), audio interface (USB), headphones

I rarely used headphones on a laptop these days but in the past I used the HP output of an HP g6 i3 W7 lappy, both into cans (AKG K92) and, when the need arose, into a small mixer and onto a pair of Tannoy 5As As I recall there was nothing wrong with the sound quality in either situation...

    Multie Recordings what software?

Ways to do this are legion! But first we must look at the basics of what you want to do and what you need to do it with. Sound capture. That means a microphone of some kind...how long have you got?! A simple'ish solution would seem to be a USB microphone but it is not quite that easy. You...

    Is it possible

As you can see Jeramaine, you are getting lots of different, often rather conflicting advice. The best way to cut through all that is to get some gear and start the process. I don't know the extent of your computer knowledge (mine is FAR from great!) but some notes on "saving" might help you...

    Is it possible

I meant to also say that digital recording gives you near infinite saving, i.e. you never need to get rid of anything. You can save your recordings in a specific folder(s) and if the hard drive is getting stuffed, move them very easily to a backup drive (as you should with everything really)...

    Is it possible

Hi Jeramaine and welcome. Rob has given you top quality info on what and how to to what you want. I would like to give you some ideas about hardware. The interface: PLEASE! Don't buy THE cheapest one you can find with just one microphone input. You will regret that mightily in just a few...

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

If there is only one valve then it must be operating in class A. The "class" of an amplifier stage has nothing to do with the type of device, valve, Silicon transistor, MOSFET no matter. "Class" dictates the way it handles signal and for two valves (or more) in push pull they can be set to pass...

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

Class D is not a "bias" function of the active devices and is more akin to a modulated Switch Mode Power Supply. Such amplifiers have virtually taken over, most active monitors use class D modules which is in fact interesting since many people must be judging the sound quality of their "fancy"...

    Again...copy writers. Dave.

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

#It's only words...# Like I said, the vast majority of people writing copy* don't know class A or B from their elbow. They just regurgitate some pseudo technical phrase they have picked up.;..No engineer in his right mind would make a "class B" pre amp! It would sound dreadful. WHAT they are is...

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

Getting there but I still say the distortion from a truly cut off SE stage would be unusable and horrid. Dave.

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

Here is a very hurried diagram of the biasing of an ECC83/12AX7. "A" is the standard preamp stage found in 99% of valve amps with slight variations. This is called "centre biasing" such that Ia swings around the 1mA point but never goes to zero. "B" cuts off the valve by raising the cathode...

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

You MUST bias any valve in some way otherwise it will just pass maximum current unless externally limited, anode load, or destroy itself e.g an output valve. Dave.

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

The adpuff men put all kinds of stuff on products and in print...don't mean it's true! (for example there is no such thing as "rms " watts!) Yes, you COULD bias a pre amp valve to zero Ia but I maintain it would sound ***t and have next to no gain. Again, circuits and voltages. Dave.

Anyone can produce a pretty display. Get me the schematic and the numbers! Suck that. Dave.

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

As I said before "some confusion over terms"! There is a tendency for people to mix up push-pull operation (where the two OP valves are effectively in series) and the amount of standing current in the stage which defines their "class". "Cathode bias" is also thrown in to further add confusing...

Looking for Class B tube preamplifier or amplifier, how many can you remember?

I am somewhat at a loss here and suspect there is some confusion of terms? A "class B" PRE amp seems very unlikely? The circuit uses single stages (not push pull) and therefore a triode biased to cut off* would produce horrible distortion and really not be usable. Sensitivity would also be...

    normalize vox?

In any case Paresh you have been fluking about with normalizing, compression? A bit of LF cut is a p of p to implement and once you have found the frequency of the voice/mic combination you've got it. As for "belting it"? *****k yes! People made a living as singers because THEY COULD BE HEARD...

    normalize vox?

But it is all relative! I don't know what backing instruments you have but if say electric guitar is slamming -2dBFS? Don't let IT! IMHO you need to bring all your other tracks to at or even below your voice. Remember! People were making very decent recordings of singers and bands with a 2...

    normalize vox?

Since this problem is unlikely with a capacitor microphone I am going to assume OP is using a dynamic? (everyone and their aunt seems to favour the SM7b these days!). Therefore try an 'inline preamp'. I found the FetHead to be fine for its money but there are lower noise examples. I am also...

    Dedicated DAW Laptop

If/when you do upgrade talk to Scan. I have not had any of their product but they have a very good name and their top bloke, Peter Kain gives generously of his time on the SoS forum. Would that reps from other related industries would "come amongst" us proles now and again! Dave.
