    New Members: Introduce Yourself Here!

The mixer seems to want up to 1 amp (1000mA) at +&- 10V. You can only get positive 10V reg chips so the best solution is a pair of adjustable regulators LM317/LM377. You should be able to buy a pre made PCB with those on it and, if yer lucky, the bridge rectifier and filter capacitors (2X 2200uF...

8 kHz static noise in my audio recordings

"Ooooo! Nasty!" (only Brits of a certain antiquity will get that reference!) From all that that has been said before I have to conclude that this is a strong, external RF field. Well, I SAY "RF" but either it is actually an 8kHz audio signal or it is a much higher frequency RF carrier that...

Cured - strange clicking when recording

It is a much vaunted claim about USB that it is always "backwards compatible". I certainly have never had any trouble with 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 but that is a high as I have got at the moment. I suspect there will have to be a point when USB xX cannot run 1.1 gear? The long cable that worked with the...

    SM7a/b humbucker coil

Hi Cool Cat, I can answer some of your questions I think from "first principles? But first let me nail down the operation of the Hum Bucker Guitar Pup? Yes, this has two coiis but they are not 'contra wound' merely connected out of phase*, usually in series. This would normally give a very...

Cured - strange clicking when recording

Well, "protection" go hang! I have two devices that pass HDMI thru' and deliver composite video and stereo sound on RCA. OK it is not "1080" but then neither is You Tube! I have another that just sniffs stereo sound. Dave.

Cured - strange clicking when recording

Please explain further. As far as I always knew USB 2.0 at least was bi directional. There is the power negotiation if nothing else? I use to have a USB 1.1 device the M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface. The mic pres were crap but the drivers were pretty good and latency with a dumb Evo...

Cured - strange clicking when recording

My experience of USB cable issues is very low but I did have a problem some years ago. An NI KA6* was setup one side of the "studio" and 2, 5mtr USB A/B cables ran around the walls to two desktop PCs. One of the cables worked fine with both PCs but the other, a different brand did not. The...

    Weak/No output on Tascam 48-OB

" Often times newer opamps draw more current. Not a big deal if you are doing one here and one there on a smaller system, but can become a real consideration if you are going through and doing a whole mixer...might be too much for the PSU. Newer "faster" chips have the propensity to go into...

    Win 11 Taskbar

Hi Rich, yes I have the Dummies book and he tells us how to do that. The laptop is ultimately for my son. It is bigger that his present machine, 15.6" from 14" and the processor a bit later and faster gen'8 i5 512 SSD and 16G of ram so it should run his music work for the next five years OK? I...

    Drywall questions

SORRY about my "abrevs"! Yes Glass Fibre (correct spelling!) and Rock Wool. Glad you like my "riser diss board" idea, you can do the same with GOBOs* ? Have mains and audio panels on the inside, anything that minimizes cabling on floors has to be a good thing in my book. Robs point about sound...

    Drywall questions

To some degree walls are the easy bit! The ceiling and roof can leak a lot of sound and you cannot just go gaily adding mass there without consulting a structural engineer. "Foam to isolate the floor"? How so? the floor need to be totally decoupled from the walls with proper elastic joist...

    Win 11 Taskbar

How do you MOVE the fekker!? I have just installed Reaper on this Lenovo E590 laptop and some of the settings are buried in the taskbar. In Win 10 you just "grabbed" the bar and threw it to the side. Don't work for W 11. Don't like 11, forever popping ***t up. VERY distracting. Dave.

Audacity? Equipment? or am I missing something?

Yes Audacity is very handy to have but limited and its main limitation is that it cannot use the Focusrite ASIO drivers. Reaper can. There will be a learning curve, always is with any DAW but an evening's study should get you able to do most of what you want. Reaper is also a huge "community"...

NEWBIE - Equipment Recommendations - Recording Electric Guitar Cabs

Wrong! DO jump in! The ONLY way to do this is "to do it". For recording guitar cabs all you need is a mic (a 57 is fine but there are zillions of dynamics at a third the price than will serve) an interface and a DAW. I of course agree with Rob A, he da man! I would put in one note of caution? I...

Need help setting up lynx hilo 2 to my equipment

"Mic into preamp into compressor into hilo 2 into pc via thunderbolt 3? Is that correct" Well. K.I.S.Sir, forget the compressor for now. What mic into what preamp? And feed the pre amp into line inputs on the Lynx. I assume you have got the Hilo to playback stuff? DAW? Dave.

Need help setting up lynx hilo 2 to my equipment

Might I suggest you contact Lynx? Such a high end audio company SHOULD have a highly motivated team of people ready to help their customers IMHO. I am "slumming it" with a MOTU M4 but the guys there are super helpful (and, has to be said, NI not so much!) If they are not willing to guide you...
