Getting Multiple Tracks to be the Same Volume

This is what I would do...though it will take some time. Go back to your mixes in your DAW Gain stage every track in each song so that each track is reading about -12dB when the fader is set to zero(-8dB to -10dB for drums) Create your mix for each song with the master stereo channel peaking at...

    What defines a great guitar?

The definition of a great guitar is one that you love to play. It is completely subjective. The thing is, I have found very few in my lifetime that I didn't like to play. So maybe all guitars are just great because, well, they are guitars.

    What defines a great guitar?

I have always thought guitars are like golf clubs. Will someone play/sound better with all the best materials and adjustments to fit their style and physical make up? Absolutely. But give me a $5000 set of clubs and Tiger Woods my $200 set and we know what will happen :-)

    Raise a Glass

I like this tune. I like the idea of the leads in between vocal lines...but the the lead sounds a little out of tune to my ears. I also would add some effects to the lead to put in some space, it just sounds too dry and up front to me.

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

I don't slice it up down the syllable, but I will usually do 6-8 takes through the entire song, and then slice it into phrases. After that I use the "Lanes" feature in Cubase to choose the best takes for each line or phrase. Funny thing is, most of the slices I choose are usually from a single...

    The Thaw

Thanks for the listen and input. Yeah, vocals are getting redone. Might try the double tracked method. I think I eq'd the acoustics pretty bright. I will look at adjusting that. I had another bass drum that I found a bit boomy, maybe I went too far the other way.

My 13 yo daughter wrote an original tune “Reaching for the Moon” - check it out yo

Man, I love the vocals on this. She sings really well and all the recordings are nice and clean. I agree the crunchy guitar is a bit overwhelming when comes in, but just a touch. I like the energy there.

    The Thaw

Thanks for the input. I was considering re-tracking the lead vocal, seems you agree :) I will also tinker with adding some top end.

    The Thaw

I am working on a recording project where I have put three Henry David Thoreau poems to music as part of a four song EP. This is the first of the lot, called "The Thaw." This song follows the poem to the letter. In the others I took more liberties and added some lyrics as well. Thoughts and...

Can't record MIDI anymore on Cubase...

I do not know if you are still working on this problem but here is some info. Go under the studio tab>studio setup and click the box that I have circled here. This will allow you to have sound from other sources like youtube or media player. Then you can pop right back to Cubase without...

    A mini Beatles medley/tribute.

Good sounds here, "Bathroom Window" is really well done. Are you performing on all of the instruments as well?

    room sim/correction apps

I recently bought the Steven Slate VSX headphone system and I think it's great so far. $300, but you get some nice cans as well. I was looking into small studio monitors and would have easily spent this much or more and would still be mixing in my living room or garage.

Headphones vs Monitors for Mastering WTF? Oh Hell no!.......never say never ;)

Pretty good so far with them. I have an EP project I am working on tracking right now, so I will let you know as I start mixing. But the near field monitors in one section sounds just like it's coming from my computer speakers, kinda impressive. I like it more than the Sonarworks headphone...

Name - Goo Goo Dolls - cover -

Everything sounds great, especially the vocals and guitar. My only nit would be that the drums are a bit too dry and maybe a bit too out front in the mix. Sounds like they are in a different space to me than the rest of the tracks.

Headphones vs Monitors for Mastering WTF? Oh Hell no!.......never say never ;)

I just got the Steven Slate VSX system with decicated headphones and software that makes it sound like you are in different listening environments. Have to say that after a week of listening on them and getting used to it, it is amazing how it sounds like I am in a room and not using...

"DIY RECORDING BOOTH" IS IT TOO SMALL???

If it gets you in the zone and produces good results, that all that matters. Like your mic, I have an Aston Origin myself and I love it.

Need some help with cubase 12 elements and VST import

Yeah as Rob said, not sure what you mean by import. I think that in Cubase 12 you can only use VST3 plugins now. But I never really have a problem using third party plugins in Cubase.. Sometimes you also may need to update the plugin from the source. I had a UJAM plugin that wouldn't load until...
