What effect does this have on the pickups? Is it exactly what one assumes; just turning off one coil to get another sound?

Right, so the reason I got a new amp was because my old one was 'blown' as in really dirty but still played and no real clean channel. if I replace the fuses will that restore the little bugger back to full use?
