    what order to connect these?

In what order should be signal chain be to get the best bass guitar sound into my mixer [1] (which accepts both XLR and TS). Sometimes we will go straight in using a DI [2] but other times using a multi-effects pedal [3] or a bass compressor [4]. Should it be: Bass > pedal > DI > mixer Bass...

    multi-purpose budget monitors

To this point I have been monitoring using my hifi (Onkyo amp, Wharfedale full range fronts) and headphones (Grado SR60 for open; Yamaha RH2b for closed). I considering getting some real active monitors (for budgetary reasons, can I buy one channel now and another in the future or must they be...

    Roland KC-60 keyboard amp

I'm interested in getting an entry level keyboard amp like the Roland KC-60 (http://www.roland.com/products/en/KC-60/specs.html) as I'm not satisfied with my keyboard's built-in speakers. Roland's site doesn't specify the frequency range of the speaker. (A 10" speaker should be able to go...

Which footswitch should I buy for my Yamaha PSR-225GM keyboard? The owners manual says its compatible with both the FC4 and FC5. http://yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetail/0,6373,CNTID%253D392%2526CTID%253D209000%2526VNM%253DLIVE%2526AFLG%253DY%2526LGFL%253DN,00.html...

    monitors or amp for keyboard

My keyboard (don't laugh) is a Yamaha PSR-225GM. I'm happy with most of the sounds and am not using it for any serious work. But It sounds better on headphones (I use Grado SR60's) than the built in speakers. Even cheap computer speakers are an improvement over the built ins. The types of...

    DI for bass

My band's bass player had his amp flake out (and there's not enough money available to replace it yet). The bass is a Fender Squire 2. Tried just connecting the bass into the line in on my mixer (Yamaha MG10/2) via 1/4" but that produced a much different sound (sterile, thin, uninteresting)...

    microphone for high SPL

My main microphone is a Studio Projects B1 which is having trouble dealing with very loud passages (it distorts - static sound). The B1 is listed as 132dB SPL The loudest parts I need to record are: male vocals trumpet trombone bass trombone flugelhorn My recording room has bad acoustics...

    recommend a small diaphragm condenser

My only decent microphone right now is a Studio Projects B1. I'd like to buy another cheap (under $150) microphone to give a bit more variety to my choices. There are two things I'm not happy with my ability to do using the B1: 1. close miking - too easy to overdrive 2. plucked strings -...

which Behringer Powerplay (or other) headphone amp?

Budget: US $150 (I have some credit at Musicians Friend so I'd rather buy from them but if not, so be it) I need to get a stereo headphone amp with a minimum of three headphone outputs. Sources are the mixer (CR Out +4DBu) and the playback from the recorder (Line Out -10DBu). I like the idea...

    distortion on on vocals

I'm having a problem with distortion on vocal tracks. Loud passages become distorted. The only way I've been able to mitigate this is to turn down the pre input level sensitivity. But then the recording is very quiet and distortion appears when I digitally amplify the track in the mix later...

    playback speedup

Using CEP 1 on WinXP. Sometimes when playing in mutlitrack mode some tracks will increase pace (but same pitch). Restarting CEP solves this. Playing the individual tracks (stereo mode) doesn't exhibit this problem. I had two rhythm tracks that were to play on the same beat (1 & 3). Track two...

    multi-headphone amp

I want to be able to connect multiple headphones (3) to my mixer. The mixer has a headphone output (3mW, 100 ohms) but also ST Out and CR Out both of which are quarter inch. No exotic 'phones are to be used and sound quality of the amp is not very important - just as long as we can hear each...

any reason NOT to upgrade to Audition?

Is there any reason not to upgrade to Adobe Audition (price is quite reasonable)? I'm currently running CEP 1.2 which is used for editing, mixing and effects (I record a track at a time and then put it together in CEP). My only complaint is that is a bit crash prone (at the most awkward time)...

making your band into a business

re: making your band into a business Is it a good idea? I know this will vary by state and country (I'm in Ohio) but others experience with creating a small business may be relevant. It looks like it will cost $125 to register my band as a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC). What are the...
