Many pre-amps now feature a High-Z input and/or Line input for instruments. the question is, how do they compare to dedicated direct boxes.
Ultimately, can a good pre-amp with High-Z and Line Inputs eliminate the need for a direct box in a small studio?
Thepoll on what software people uses had many choices but did not include Digital Performer. I am curious as to why that is. It seems to me that Pro Tools and Digital Performer are the most often used software by professionals. Am I mistaken?
There are probably many techniques for syncing instruments, machines etc. To start, what are some of the techniques used for syncing drum machines and arppegiated (arppegiator synth parts) on bass, for instance. I find that the machines tend to drift off from each other dispite their being...
How has modern technology, manufacturing techniques, computers, competition, cheap labor in third world countries effected the price/performance cureve on microphones. I recently read an article by a well known rtecordist who offered that there is no reason anymore to use the high priced...
i know this subject has been discussed to death but I have not been in the position where itg was truly a relevant subject, UNTIL NOW. I have owned a Kog karma for some time, about a year and though I like it, in fact love it in certain respects and would otherwise keep it, for reasons I would...
Anybody with a reasonable amount of know how in this area kindly share some of that valuable information. I would like to obtain greater control over sound parameters throug midi conrollers such as automated portamento, LFO effects and the like. However, in looking at the manual for the Waldorf...
I have an Waldorf Micro Q, a fine instrument. No really, I love the sound. the problem is the programming of this thing. I have been trying to learn to use the CC controllers to do sound shaping with midi but the manual is awful. I says, sort of, what you can do. In other words, it says...
I do not understand negative dB numbers. What does this really mean. Obviously, there is no negative sound, there is some level, sme amplitude, some volume, so that must correlate to positive something. So how come negative measurements are used or should I say negative designtions
I know...
The thread on old vs. new pre-amp technology certainly contained many great and valid points and was informative and enlightening. But after all has been said and done, I am fairly set on deciding to purchase for my first high end pre-amp a Universal Audio 2-610. For one thing, I tend to like...
One of my first electronic keyboards was a Fender Rhodes statge piano with the silver top. I sold that and got a suitcase model, also an original fender Rhodes before they were just Rhodes. right about now you are probably thinking "hey1 this gut is in the wrong section, get over toe keyboards"...
Mr. VOXVENDOR certainly has contributed many fine posts and threads to this site since I have been here. I am wondering, Mr. VV, is that you who is so nicely referred to and reviewed in the current issue of RECORDING magazine's "reader's tapes". BTW, isn't that somewhat of a dated name for the...
I have an AKAI MPC2000XL. The sounds it came with are certainly good and useful. I do not have access to live drms to sample them myself but I would like to expand my palette. I am looking for a sample library with good natural, dry drum sounds and plenty of percussion sounds. Any recommendations?
Advances in technology seem to be all over the place. Cell phones getting better, smaller, digital cameras becomming better, computerized this or that, flat screens etc. and so forth. In the field of professional audion, does the fact that certain vintage gear increased in value and has remained...
For top quality vocals, some have strongly recommended an Avalon 737 (I believe that is the correct model number). It is one channel but has EQ and compression. I am sure that something that costs that much will sound great. Unfortunately, it is one channel so I cannot use it for stereo...
It does seem like pro tools is the most often used digital recording system. For those who have different programs such as Digital Performer, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo etc. when having to deal with a pro tools file, what is to be done. What are the drawbacks of not having pro tools in a commercial...
Some like their coffee with a little cream, some like it black, some like it with half and half and sugar, some leave off the sugar. I like it black and every now and then with condensed milk - no sugar. So, some like tubes, some like no tubes. Though there are lots of recommendations for...
I want to back of Digital Performer files on CD. I have Toast but most of the files are too big. What are my options for backing up so I can clear space for new projects?
I am running a MOTU 2408 with an anaolgue board. I therefore have eight inputs and outputs (which does match the 8 bus configuration of the board). But, I would like additional analgue inputs and outputs. MOTU 24i give 24 analogue inputs. This might be good since the number of outbputs is not...
So here is the rub. I could purchase a PCM 91 but...an MPX1 has been highly recommended. In the meantime, there was an MPX 500 that now seems to have morphed into the 550 though I don't know if anyone has them yet. I really don't know what to do. Is it simply better to get the top of the line or...
