Anyone familier with these?
I just won one on Ebay for $50. I know it is a single channel dicrete gate and can be connected as balanced in & out. The good news is it comes with a schematic so I should be able to get it running.
I was just wondering if anyone had used one and if so, how well...
OK, here is a question (there is no right or wrong answer):
Anyone here have a completely pure analog recording path? Don't forget some of the hidden A/D/A paths through some outboard gear.
At the moment, I don't. Both reverbs I use are digital though I'm considering taking a spring reverb...
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on "color scheme"
psychology (lol). I am in the: 'pick the colors & fabrics' stage of building
my space and I've read that the common wisdom for small rooms is that a light colored
ceiling will give the impression of a larger space.
However, I have...
I picked up a couple of TT patchbays (used) and need to solder a bunch of wires up.
The trouble is, the contacts on the legs of the connectors are fairly oxidized... Does anyone have a recommendation for cleaning these so I can solder to them? Is there a magic goo or spray so that I don't have...
So, I now have these crazy inside out walls of Johns all around my studio and I know they need to be covered with fabric but what is the best looking/easiest method for doing so?
I am thinking I need to build frames out of 1x stock cover with dacron stuffing stuff then wrap the fabric over...
The Ampex Ag440 family of tape recorders have a separate electronics module for every channel being recorded. That is: a 2 track deck will have two, a four track 4, etc...

What do you say when someone asks: "Why do you use tape when you can just use the computer?"
The common things I hear are:
Tape is so expensive
My answer is to try and explain that all media has an expense. If you were to buy a new drive per project (which happens quite a bit) you would be...
Fredric - with you mentioning that you were a licensed electrician, this may be for you but any and all are welcome to help...
I just had the town building inspector in to check the framing and insulation of my studio. It is in my basement and so, none of the walls are load bearing. The...
From the drawing below, which would be the better approach to making a slat resonator in a room. Given that this is new construction, and I have not added the layer of sheetrock on the inner wall, would it be better to leave it off (drawing "A") or cover it to add isolation (drawing "B")?
If...
I have some new photos up at :

Will do more as we progress. I just got my $#@$*%$ digital camera back from the repair depot.
Kevin.
In another thread recently Bigfoot made mention of increasing the effective volume of a room. This is naturally accomplished by absorption. I've looked around and have not found a reasonable explanation of how this is calculated. I.E. if I add X ft/cm of type Y insulation how much does that...
I was driving past a glass company the yesterday and spied two wooden glass doors leaning against the dumpster. These were from the front of some store... they are big, heavy and solid.
Stopped in, made a quick inquirery about taking them... no problem... the guy helped load them into my...
Hi - does anyone else use the Roland SRV-3030 reverb unit? I picked one up thinking I could get two separate channels in and out of it but so, far I have not been succesful in getting it to work in that mode.
The manual states that it has an "individual" mode (along with stereo etc...) but...
I am currently building a studio in my basement and have been trying to figure out how best to get heat (hot air) into the rooms without allowing sound to transmit between the rooms and into the rest of the house.
One thing that just occured to me was: Why not just run heat ducts to the spaces...

OK Lads - this is it.
Attached is the latest plan for my studio. This is the result of lots of great info and feedback from this group as well as reading stuff on the web (Thanks John!) and in books. But the time has come to put down the pencil and pick up the pnumatic nailer - construction...
I just ran across this stuff at the local Home Depot (Wharehouse type home supply store) for ~ $6.50US for a 2'x2' square.

Anyone seen, heard of or used it at all?
I'm sure it does not have the isolation strengths of a frame on neoprene but, I was thinking of...
