    Scaler 2

Scaler is my single most powerful tool and by a long, long shot. Nothing in my career of cue creation has even remotely been as prominent. It is, however, not a toy, as it can be complex. It also requires learning the plug-in as it is, without a doubt, not plug-and-play. It can push those with a...

    Rode NT1-A Malfunction?

Wouldn't you have to eliminate the room to troubleshoot problems specific to the mic? Run the mic to a small closet (or similar) and revisit. The whole room/noise floor problem, with sensitive condenser mic's is an old one.

Reaper and Addictive drums - delay.

I'm a tad confused here. Perhaps you could clarify. Are you suggesting that your mouse introduces latency when using Additive Drums but your midi controller does not? Or, in the alternative are you saying your computer rig in general has latency?

Virtual equivalents and best recreations of famous synth keyboards?

The Roland D-50 was the first rompler to use samples. It was unique because the only samples it used were the "attack" envelopes of a sampled sound. The rest was pure synthesis. From there the floodgates were open and every major manufacturer, on one level or another, had rompler-based devices...

    ...favorite drummers?

Liberty Devitto was summarily dismissed by Billy Joel. There was no interpersonal communication and unlike many band breakups which end up in a battle royale, Liberty wasn't angry, but bitterly heartbroken. I don't believe they've communicated since. As I mentioned I thought his tone and style...

    ...favorite drummers?

That's a bit like asking "What's your favorite song?" as that tends to change by mood and day by day :) I'm a bit like snow lizard in the post above. I will say, and this is just my 2 cents, Fool in the Rain (John Bonham) is the single best guttural yet incredibly technical, pure rock and roll...

Virtual equivalents and best recreations of famous synth keyboards?

Audio samples in no way directly relate, in and of themselves, to hyperrealistic sounds. It certainly can be the case, especially when trying to re-create acoustic sounds such as strings, woodwinds ect. Even then the cost of creating realistic libraries based on samples is uber expensive to...

Virtual equivalents and best recreations of famous synth keyboards?

For Korg; Korg themselves have a bevy of their own VI recreations of their original hardware devices including the newer Wavestate, Wavestation, Opsix, Modwave, Polysix, and all the way back to the infamous M1 and Triton. Having owned, or still own many of the hardware devices, as well as owning...

    Omnisphere problem

Is Omnishere giving you a prompt to locate the steam folder? If so, I believe you need to direct that prompt to C:/ProgramData/Spectrasonics/Steam Folder. I'm far from a Windows expert but I believe the ProgramData folder on Windows is hidden by default. In your Control Panel click "show hidden...

    New Synth Today

Colin brings up a good point here. Some years back, despite leaning heavily on softsynth VI's for my cues, I discovered the joy in hardware synths. As I mentioned and for me, there's a tactile feel, touch, and response that isn't present with VI's, especially with filters and oscillators, but...

    Help with Cubase 12 elements

I'll assume you are referring to VST plug-ins and or VI's and not VST files? Cubase is one of the few DAW's I have little experience with. That said, a quick check would indicate VST2 and VST3 are the only plug-in formats supported and, if you have a newer version of Cubase it only supports...

Need Help with Choosing Components for Audio PC

Drives, yeah. That's basically what I am doing, SSD for system + HDD for files. I'm not sure I get this Tym. If I never see another spinning drive again I'd be really happy :) A lot of folks in my industry swear by the Samsung T7 drives. That not to mention they're pretty affordable. I've got 4...

    New Synth Today

I have an Arturia Minifreak, a Korg Modwave, a Korg Wavestate, and a Moog Mother 32. All are similar in footprint to the Brute, although I usually (not always) use a controller. I'd be hard-pressed to choose a favorite, particularly between the Minifreak and Wavestate. The filters on the...

    Concerning Reverb Inserts and Sends

Ha! :) I dunno if it rises to the level of "mind-blowing", but I would agree that for time-based effects, a simple, fundamental, aux send and return is base-line. However, I would submit for many things in my world, it is essential to "insert" time-based effects on a track-by-track basis. It's...

    Concerning Reverb Inserts and Sends

That's interesting. In experiment #1 you mention your pre-fade send is set to 100%. Does that mean the pre-send fader is maxed or is it set to digital unity? I've had some battles over the years with Pro Tools aux send faders not being accurate. We use them to bounce stems and levels are...

Do I need to bypass mixer preamp when plugging in external preamp?

Here is a direct quote from Shure that might shed some light on things. "Low-gain microphones typically come with high-impact problems that can frustrate engineers. Unfortunately, many dynamic microphones are among the best sounding models out there. Luckily, there’s the Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic...

Do I need to bypass mixer preamp when plugging in external preamp?

The first thing to recognize here is the Shure SM7B is historically and notoriously a very low-output mic. I think Shure still recommends a cloud lifter when in use. I have heard folks successfully run a cloud lifter into a mic pre but it's one of the only times that pre-to-pre gain stage chain...

    Multi-Band Compression Redux

Yep Mark, it's not at all uncommon for some to use MBC as a de-esser. You are correct in that you'd first identify the frequency that is the offender. You'd then set 1 of the bands to center on the problematic frequency. You'd need to narrow the band. The threshold would then need to be high...

    Multi-Band Compression Redux

Yea Mark, I agree. I'm good with the idea that Multi-band compression might seem to some a tad intimidating, at least at first. What raised my curiosity here was the idea that they (MBC) create mostly negative comments. In truth I dunno any device in audio processing, digital or otherwise, that...
